Sony's latest Chilean ad campaign depicts heart transplants, blood transfusions... and Nazis. Pushing the marketing envelope yet again, has Sony gone too far?

As a devout Sony fanboy, I support them in everything they do.* So it goes without saying when they post an ad in Chili like the one pictured above, I’m going to run to their defense when everyone starts talking controversy and say, “Now wait just a gosh darn minute! There’s more to it than that, man!”

And there is!

I mean, Nazi blood transfusions and graphic heart transplants have everything to do with video games. That’s what this industry was founded on, man.

Sony haven't gone to far. They have depicted far more graphic scenes in their Ad campaigns in the past. This is minor in comparison to some.

You don't have to like it. A lot of things people don't like stick with them more than things they do like. It's like an image of someones heart being removed which Sony have already done works because it's going to stick with people, doesn't have to have the product anywhere in it or show games as long as it has the product name somewhere the advert is doing something. As they say any publicity is good publicity and controversy is the best kind as it's normally free.

While it might certainly stick in people's minds, I don't see how this is supposed to shift PS3 consoles. I'm not looking at these ads and going "wow, I better go get me a PS3 right this second!".

          Their advertising the brand name.

What are we doing right now? Talking about the advert. Therefore its already achieved its goal. To gain attention.

If only everyone in the world fully understood the cunning of advertisers and marketers. Then they'd all be out of jobs.
