We look at these boxes all the time. We either think they are ugly or beautiful, much like people. Some games have great looking boxes, while others are ugly. Just because the box is nice, doesn't mean the game is good, though. Take a look at the best looking boxes from 2009.

There were many great games that released in 2009 and there were also some pretty bad games. Much like a book, you can't judge a game by the cover. Some games have beautiful box arts, but the game itself is terrible, while others have great boxes and are great games. It's time to look at the best box arts that the video game industry had to offer in 2009. Some may surprise you, but others will likely not. Some of these games were great, while others were forgetful.

How was Demon's Souls one of the best box arts? Come to think of it, none of those titles really have any cool box arts.

I agree, and since the explanation for all of them was as simple as "Intriguing" or "Awesome", it's hard to see why any of these are so great.

phht, Demons Souls box art is nothing special at all. PS3 fanboys just cling to it with every award type thing they can think of cause they think its the greatest thing to happen to video games ever.

im not able to view the slideshow on that page, but Borderlands has the best box art of 09 though. very different and pretty edgy, a dude pretending to shoot himself in the head. i remember there being some controversy over it too.

Yet PS3 fanboys didn't actually promote Demon's Souls box art to the status it has been raised here. I could actually say the same about the game itself, it was the reviewers and importers that gave the game it's cult following. As such fanboy's don't actually "cling" onto the game as if it's the only good game they have as PS3 owners have a lot to shout about right now. If anything in the sake of fairness, your statement could be flipped to describe Xbox 360 fanboys and Mass Effect. They are both good RPG's that are exclusive to a given platform, so yeah "cling" away if you must.

The genuinely good in my opinion:
    House of the Dead: Overkill
    Borderlands
    Dissidia
    Bayonetta
    Killzone 2
    Metroid Prime Collection
    Monster Hunter 3

Everything else seemed kind of thrown in because it was at least somewhat notable. But these titles really seem to have interesting boxart to me.

Art is subjective. To claim art is good or bad, is entirely subjective, never fact.

that's why at the bottom the author writes "what's your favorite boxart of 09"

Borderlands boxart is pretty good imo

But i don't get how the Super Mario Wii is ANYTHING like Classic mario. I'm not really sure that Luigi(Sadly Overlooked :'() is on the cover of any classic mario games, Nor has a Yellow and Blue toad been on the cover.

'Epic', 'Awesome' and 'Intriguing' dont really cut it.
