Japanese artist, Tenmyouya Hisashi auctioned off his painting "RX-78-2 Kabuki-mono 2005 Version" in Hong Kong for $600,000USD. He says that he didn't change the image of Gundam itself, but changed the suit instead as well as the body, making it more customized and thus, more appealing.

In Japan there are many "Gundam-Otaku's," and their adoration of Gundam is intense. Therefore, I did not want to change their image of Gundam. By changing Gundam's "mobile suit" to tattoos, I altered his body, and made him even more customized. I emphasized the very concept of the "mobile suit," and by setting Gundam against a background of gold leaf from traditional Japanese painting, I emphasized Gundam's samurai origins.

The painting's cool and all, but I wouldn't pay $600,000 for it. I guess, if I have the money, I'd buy some paintings/photographs(cool imagery and the such) that I really enjoy to decorate my home, but overall, I'm not that kind of guy.

    Looks good.

Don't much care for the gun, but that probably isn't his fault, but rather that is what the model's gun looks like....

For $600,000 I would want a life sized Gundam figure that can talk and retrieve items for me...not this.

I'd pay €20 for it out of some guys trunk at a Sunday market. That's about it. $600k is just ridiculous. It's like those 'Modern Art' pieces that sell for millions when they're just splashes on a canvas. lolart

You've got to admit though, it's extremely well made. Time to find a high resolution version and print off my own "painting"!
