[Photo] Miyamoto at the E3 Xbox booth: Notices the "Mii-too's".

Cruxis Mana | July 20, 2008 | Pictures | Wii XBOX 360 E3 2008
No-one was really surprised when Microsoft announced their new avatar system, mainly because they have already been leaked to the net a few weeks beforehand, but also because they looked strangely familiar.

It seems Miyamoto didn't get the memo, and needless to say, he doesn't look to impressed.
"Miyamoto as he realizes Xbox's Avatars are a total rip off of the Miis. "

Face it, everyone's just copying each other now. I'd be annoyed if I were Miyamoto, but then Microsoft should be getting upset over all the changes to PSN that emulate LIVE (while Sony blatantly makes remarks about how LIVE only has games nobody wants to play, so on, so forth). It's not about originality anymore, just who can do the better job.

Thats not a bad thing, in fact thats a good thing. Which means they have to really think and out due the competition. There's originality but not to the extent your thinking of. Take the Wii-remote the motion sensoring has been done before just didn't work, Nintendo made it work with their hardware.

Nice, someone thumbed me down. Trigger happy little-...

Anyway, I didn't say it was a bad thing. Far from it, I don't think people should really go around pointing fingers about Trophies ripping off Achievements or the new avatars ripping off Mii's (which some people are). Just stating the trend as I see it.

M$ is smart. If it were exactly the same, Nintendo'd sue.

Why, Does Nintendo own the idea of a virtual avatar?

Because Nintendo was the first to integrate them into video game hardware.

So what? They have no legal ownership of the idea. Therefore Nintendo have jack to sue for.

Did you really have to copy the GAF title? Really?

      I don't have a very good imagination ='[

... Plus it was fairly humorous, as are most things from GAF.

Microsoft Avatars > Mii's, tbh. I'm saying this after I made like 50 celebrity Mii's, too.

Well, at least on Microsoft's, I can put Chuck Norris in a Cowboy suit and call him Walker, Texas Ranger.

I never said Nintendo has the right to sue. I'm merely asserting the fact that Nintendo was the first video game company to integrate virtual avatars into their hardware interface so it's blatantly obvious that after Microsoft does the same thing, they got the idea from Nintendo. Sure, Nintendo can't sue, but that doesn't mean that Microsoft didn't rip the idea from them.

Also, sorry for the double post-Grep wouldn't let me reply to slumpy monkey's comment.
