The weekly Shounen Jump magazine has revealed the first official image of Justin Chatwin as Goku in the Dragon Ball Z movie.

Naturally, fans have had mixed responses upon seeing this new "live-action" version of Goku.
Sour Mikan informs me that the scan is from Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 24 which is available officially this Monday.

Along with that he also provides us with a translation.

I grew up on the original Japanese Dragon Ball. To see this guy play Gohan...*barf* I'd be outraged to see this movie if I had created, or, had any part in the making of the manga/anime.

I hate to tell you this tek but ... he isn't playing Gohan. He's playing Goku.

er, right, I meant Goku (even says it in the title ><). Either way, he's not even Japanese. This is a fine example of North Americans butchering anime and manga titles by doing live actions. I'm going to assume there wont even be Piccolo in this movie, either.

I swear, I'm going to throw something at someone when I see how horrible they butcher Akira.

Well they don't look Japanese in the anime either so there is an excuse for that. But realistically he doesn't look like Goku at all anyways so it's a pointless rebuttal.

Let's just leave it at this movie is going to suck and anyone who spends money to see it needs to get checked out by a doctor.

I soo agree with you Tek. I grew up watching DBZ in its prime, and its one of my favorite animes, if not the best one.

But seeing how the first one failed and now they're doing another live action one, which i haven't been impressed, is appalling.
They may *bleep* it up so bad i may not like it anymore.

I can't possibly describe the feelings im getting from knowing that this can make or break DBZ forever.

This is going to be pure shit, but I'll probably go and see it for a laugh to see it butcher up what was a great anime to watch as a kid.

On the plus side, Master Roshi is a Manchester United fan.
