I'm guessing that Square Enix are saving their big Final Fantasy announcements for the Square Enix Party and the Tokyo Game Show.

I'm beginning to think FF XIII is a big lie to boost their stocks.

Yeesh, almost everything BUT FF XIII and Versus XIII, WTF?

That probably means that it probably won't be released until Fall of 09....If they were really going to release either of them, say, around spring of 09, likely they'd have done enough to feature a lot of new videos/content for E3 >_

All of a sudden I don't give a shit about Squeenix at E3... (well, except for Infinite Undiscovery. That's looking like a superb RPG ... maybe even better than FF Versus XIII?)

I'll probably get thumbed down for this comment by over-obsessive Final Fantasy/Squeenix fans but, quite frankly, I'm sick of Squeenix "teasing" their fans with the belief that we're hanging off every tiny scrap of meaningless info they throw at us. We're not. We just want some DECENT info. The last trailer was released, what, a year ago? I understand that they might not want to reveal alot of info this time around, but releasing short videos or new screens every few weeks/months ain't going to hurt.

Hm. I agree yet disagree with this, GG. If they give very few screens/videos here and there, that would raise our anticipation for FFXIII, and it may sky rocket if the little bits and pieces continue...especially when SE are clearly not done with the game. Different marketing strategies. And think of it this way, the more info they feed us, the more we'll want. It's bound to have some refreshing gameplay elements that will get our 'hype-meters' going...so honestly, I think it's for the best. Maybe they shouldn't beat around the bush all the time, sure, but I suppose this is how they do business and believe it or not, attract more fans.

I agree with your post. I feel if they gave too much info about these games they will end up being like FF12, and be somewhat failures. I believe this market strategy as odd as some may find it works.

I get what you're saying Storm, but I don't think that releasing next-to-no info at all is a good way of attracting more fans or getting more people interested in the game. There's a "happy medium" that games need when it comes to advertising. Too much advertising and people will get hyped-up and be ultimately disappointed when the game doesn't deliver all they hoped for ... but too little advertising and people lose interest. I think FFXIII is falling into the latter category (as can be seen by the dead FFXIII and Versus XIII forums around the 'net).
They'll undoubtedly sell well because they're a Final Fantasy game, but there are alot of people that were disappointed with FFXII and the numerous mediocre spin-offs and it'd be nice if Squeenix were doing just a bit more to "prove" to people that FFXIII and Versus XIII are worth buying. A few screens every now and then (and a trailer or two) isn't going too overboard. Any info would be nice, really.

Well they have released a new trailer or two haven't they? Only they were behind closed doors.

Which doesn't really make sense now that I think about it, as the only people they hype are the journalists and other game developers instead of the actual you know consumers.

But like said Final Fantasy XIII and Versus are likely being saved as the big guns for the Tokyo Game Show and Square Enix Party, I suspect a big flood of info and trailers there

          - FFXII did too much.
          - FFXIII isn't doing enough.

I'm with Silver Mirror now. Blow out at the Tokyo Game Show and/or the Square Enix party or GTFO =]

Yea but FF12 was hyped up due to massive info we got, thats why it didn't do well. SE may not have a suitable video or demo at this moment to give to the fans. Would you rather have a shitty video/demo about the game which may not be great to the fanbase and lose faith more, or would you have a high quality video/demo that wowes the crowd and the fanbase actually sticks around?

We don't know the real reason for them doing it this way, so im not going to say it sucks. Obviously these two FF13 titles are going to be huge if its taking them this long to make. Even for one, but Last Remnant should be something to look forward too for both 360 and PS3 owners.

Actually FB, FFXII was never really hyped up at all. They threw info at us sure, but did we pay it much attention? Hell no. I enjoyed the game, may not be one of their best FF's, but it's a new take on things, such as the 'politics' involved. Thing is, FFXIII's little information was making fans go crazy. It's mysterious protagonist and such that we got from the trailer at the time leading up to FFXII's release caused it to get heavily overshadowed.

You're right about that, GG. They should give us at least a few screens or something to remember that this game is on it's way by early next year. The problem is finding the right balance. Not too much info that'll have us too psyched for it and not too little to make us demand more. Indeed, they need to work harder with their games, and I feel that's what they are doing with FFXIII, and why they aren't bringing out anything new about it(which is good or bad depending on how you take it). But who knows, only time will tell. Silver's got a point, though. E3 isn't what it used to be, I can see why FFXIII wouldn't show up there.
