In a press release sent out today by Sega, the game publisher has confirmed what was the purported cover story for the September 2008 issue of Nintendo Power. Sonic and the Black Knight, the newest adventure for the blue hedgehog, will be Wii-exclusive, with a release sometime in the Spring of 2009.

Sonic and the Black Knight will be the second game in the "storybook series", with the first game being Sonic and the Secret Rings, which brought the blue blur into the world of Arabian Nights. Sonic and the Black Knight will bring Sonic into presumably King Arthur's tale, questing to become the ultimate knight and save the medieval world. The game will be developed by Sonic Team Japan. The profile for the game on Sega's website can be found here.
SEGA of Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced Sonic™ and the Black Knight, an all-new Wii-exclusive adventure. Damnit, so is this a sequel to Secret Rings? It's the second title in the Storybook Series, but I really hope it's not a sequel. I liked Secret Rings and I believe Sonic Team went on the right track with that game. This game, just screams 'horrible' IMO because of the *bleeping* sword.

Edit: I'll look into this game anyway. lol

Oh god, what's next? Little Red Riding Sonic? Sega should take a page out of Capcom's book and make a retro Sonic game.

I was thinking Sonic and the Seven Dwarfs but that's just me.

And yeah, the retro effect would be awesome.

The sword could just be like the genie ring with maybe one or two using it, like a bonus strike after a homing attack. It may be a little out of place but it could still be fairly solid.
