Battle Fantasia: Guilty Gear creators set to release fighter in Europe

chautemoc | August 01, 2008 | Press Release | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
Arc System Works is working on a title for the PS3 and Xbox 360 called Battle Fantasia, and will release it Q1 2009 in Europe and Aksys Games will be releasing it sometime before the close of 2008 in North America.

The game claims to be "like no other fighter available on consoles", featuring fantasy-inspired characters and a storyline and script which hold true to its Japanese heritage and manga roots. Moreover, the game throws in some RPG elements: no health bars here, just HP. Smaller characters have less HP but are harder to hit; larger ones presumably have more and deal more damage, but are "lumbering hulks."

Details on modes and features are in the quote.
Battle Fantasia includes a variety of different modes, including story, practice, survival, time attack, versus mode and online multiplayer. What’s more, by playing through the story mode, it’s possible to unlock new costumes for the fighters, along with a range of artwork by Guilty Gear series legend Emiko Iwasaki.

Key features:

• A faithful recreation of the awesome arcade game, from the developers of the Guilty Gear series
• Fast-paced, fluid and balanced fighting
• Innovative 2.5D graphics engine
• 12 playable characters with their own range of special moves
• 2-player head-to-head action and online multiplayer
• Artwork and character design by Emiko Iwasaki

Nice, they've been showing this off at conventions and gaming events for a few months, Aksys Games is actually handling the port in North America and it's doing quite well, they're also doing Blaz Blue which has much more fanfare behind it in comparison to this.

Battle Fantasia was available for gamers at Anime Expo 2008, Comic-Con 2008 and should be present along with Blaz Blue at EVO as well.

The Japanese console release was earlier this year and the arcade game was released to the masses in 2007 so the game isn't entirely cutting edge in the scene anymore. But it's good to see Europe getting native porting done.

I'll probably pick up the Aksys games port of it when it arrives later this year.

I think I'm anticipating BlazBlue more than this.

I honestly didn't know about this game until now. It does look interesting enough to keep an eye on, but Blaz Blue interests me a whole lot more. Probably because I'm a Guilty Gear fan.

God, 2008 for me is the revival of Fighting Games. I shall patiently wait for the revival of Beat Em' Ups.
