It's a new year, and Nintendo of America has started it off with two new games being added to the Wii Shop Channel to kick it off.

The WiiWare title today is Sandy Beach from Konami, where the title takes you out to beach to partake in one of the great beach pastimes: sand castle building. You can go for a relaxing build, or you can go into battle in the game's Crab Battle mode, where (not-so-giant) enemy crabs threaten to destroy your castle. In-between enemy waves you can use your metal detector to look for new treasures and additional weapons to fortify your castle.

The Virtual Console title today is Kirby's Dream Land 3 for the SNES. A classic title overshadowed by its more-popular sibling Kirby's Super Star, up to two players can take part in this romp through Dream Land, in a quest to stop King Dedede once more, using the power of Kirby's Copy Abilities.

Recap:

  • WW: Sandy Beach, Konami, 1-2 Players, 500 Points
  • SNES: Kirby's Dream Land 3, 1-2 Players, 800 Points

As always, games go live at Noon EST, 9AM PST. Keep track of the latest Virtual Console and WiiWare releases with the all-new 2009 edition of What's New on the Wii Shop Channel? in the Wii Virtual Console forum.

As much as I absolutely loved DK 64 (my favorite N64 game, beating even Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time), I somehow dought it's appearance, firstly the Wii actually emulates the games, the Wii would probably need an update to support the expansion pack games, but that's minor, the problem is that when Zelda Collector's edition emulated Majora's Mask, due to the expansion pack it was very buggy, the same may go for DK 64, and considering all the collectables (bananas, gold bananas, banana medals, coins, power-ups, melons, ammunition, banana fairies, keys and the like) the memory would be higher than that of pretty much any VC title...

But I could be wrong, and I hope I am, although I played DK 64 to death, so I won't get it.
