A press release sent out by publisher THQ today says Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II has dominated the charts in its first week debut. It's been the best selling PC game in the US, UK, France, Germnay Spain and Australia, this based on data collected from the NPD Group, ELSPA/GfK Chart-Track and GfK.

If you've been paying attention to the charts this past year or so, you'll know not much has changed -- The Sims, Warcraft, and the odd newcomer doing pretty well (Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, etc). So by the looks of it, this is the one PC gamers everywhere have been really waiting for. Good job, Relic!

“We have built ‘Dawn of War’ into a premier PC gaming franchise based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe,” said Brian Farrell, THQ president and CEO. “We are pleased with consumers’ strong response to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II across many of our key markets and believe the game’s success clearly demonstrates our primary objective of delivering high quality games with strong global appeal. Warhammer 40,000 is a rich and growing universe and we look forward to expanding our offerings based on this brand in the future.”

All I can say is hell yeah. Can't think of a more deserving PC title right now.

    I thought about getting it...is it P2P?

No it's an RTS. Imagine StarCraft but with Space Marines instead of Terrans, Tyranids instead of Zerg and Eldar instead of Protoss.

        P2P is peer to peer.

but really its an action RTS, not solely RTS since you dont build much in the way of buildings and its a different feel than standard RTS. i need to try this game out it sounds pretty good. although i do like 40K, Starcraft 2 is still going to kick DoW2's ass. just throwing that out there.

Except its not like SC at all.
And jesus, it's not the only *bleep*ing RTS out there. Let it go awhile, play something different and fresh.

I don't play StarCraft. I was just making a comparison to help explain a point. Geesh. P2P is also Pay-to-Play so you can see where the confusion came from.

I've played it before of course. I used to play it heaps but I broke my disc a few years ago and haven't played it since.

Looks good. Stink its only for PC though. Having said that, titles of this scale and depth are suited best to the PC in an attempt to reach a titles potential.

Think I might give it a go on my PC, assuming it will run.

Euphoric, my apologies. Starcraft just makes me crazy sometimes; people give it too much credit and other RTS' not enough, I think (not that it's not great).

its just that Starcraft hit at the right time when there was not much other than C&C for RTS games. and it just happened to be REALLY well done, of course knowing Blizzard thats a given, so thats part of where all the credit comes from. and what few "flaws" or "exploitable" things there seemed to be with SC, Blizzard appears to be fixing in SC2 (one good example is Overlord's detection ability. now you have to upgrade them for them to get that ability which allows for a bit easier Dark Temp rushing).

Yeah, I'm just saying leave room for new great games like DoW II. SC isn't omniscient.

Completely agree with that point. For my mind Age of Empires is the greatest RTS series around. DoW II is definitely going to be up there as well.
