Electronic Theatre reports on SouthPeak Games' announcement that the forthoming Velvet Assassin has gone 'gold' for Xbox 360 and PC, and is set to ship to US retailers.

Velvet Assassin brings players into the world of Violette Summer, a British secret agent behind enemy lines in multiple hot-spots during World War II. Players are introduced to a bed-ridden Violette as she slips in and out of fevered dreams, reliving her most poignant missions through her memories. With no outside support, Violette must sneak her way into heavily guarded Nazi strongholds, assassinate high-level targets and even deliver cyanide to fellow operatives caught in the field. Using true-to-life weapons and tactics, Violette is one of the few people standing between the Nazi war machine and total domination. Velvet Assassin asks players to focus on the reality behind these clandestine acts, with no technological marvels, no special weapons, just your wits and the equipment on hand.

"Velvet Assassin for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC"

    Is there a PS3 version?

Nope. Console exclusive, unfortunately. It was originally going to be on all three systems listed, hence why it's tagged to it, but Microsoft snapped them up during development.

Which is a tad bit odd as it didn't seem much more than a mediocre shooter. Maybe there's a buried treasure in this game.

this isn't a shooter, it's a stealth game kinda Splinter Cell, but cooler.

I keep hearing that Microsoft somehow bought Velvet Assassin recently, but I've never read anything official.

Microsoft have nothing to do with it as far as I'm aware - Gamecock funded the title, and the PS3 version was cancelled early-on due to the added costs. SouthPeak are now publishing because they've sinced partnered with Gamecock - where do Microsoft fit in exactly?!

Eh....you're probably right and it's just everyone jumping to conclusions. It happens so often this generation that I think people just assume that is the case when a game is only on one platform and not the other.

I'm just saying what I've read, pretty much, everywhere.

After a bit of research they were originally a PC development team that found PS3's too complicated and expensive for their first transition game, you're right. Saying that though the Jews crucified Jesus and Bush was elected to be the most powerful man on Earth, so shit happens. Ironically I can remember first reading about the non-existent buy-out on Electronic Theater

Too bad, it looked like a cool stealth game.

O rly? I'm positive I saw a version for PS3, and I think it says in the trailer that it is being launched for PS3, maybe it hasn't gone gold for the system yet though. Doesn't look like a very convincing title at the moment anyways.

I think it was before, but then they changed it.

Yeah it was featured in PSM or whatever the hell they call themselves these days, and then later retracted. So at one time it truly was slated for the PS3.
