Electronic Theatre hosts an introduction to the recently announced Mass Effect 2 character Grunt, a Krogan fighter with, apparently, a lot of attitude.

The new character revealed for Mass Effect 2, and a possible choice for you squad, is Grunt. A violent and unpredictable Krogan fighter, Grunt has never faced true defeat. His unsurpassed physical strength makes him a strong asset to Commander Shepard’s team, if he can be tamed, and if he can be trusted.

Grunt, the big "I'm gonna kick your ass cause I'm a huge mean ass Krogan Fighter who follows my leader around like a near mindless slave"? Such originality in naming a Krogran.

In the first game, they explain why Wrex (Krogan bounty hunter) follows you around. It starts out as a symbiotic relationship, anyway. I imagine Grunt must have his reasons in the sequel.

hes got a point that Grunt is a pretty weird name for a character, let alone an alien. i hope he will be a good enough replacement for Wrex.

You and me both, but I seriously wonder where they got Grunt from. Despite the fact that it is a weird name and all, I wonder if they have even realized that naming an NPC called Grunt that follows Shepard around for whatever reason is just begging for another Jenkins.

Typically when people use a term like "grunt", especially in games, it's some low weak unit that is to be massed and used as fodder that dies and can be massed some more. On top of it, usually they don't think and are mindless slaves to be ordered to their deaths. Partly why I was making a big deal out of "Grunt" instead of something like "Greg" or "John" or "Bob".

true, but maybe they are hoping you will make that assumption and think he is going to be cannon fodder but he will actually kick a lot of ass like Wrex, so you dont see it coming.

Wrex will still be in it but they need a replacement for the people who killed him in the first one.

Dont forget, you can change party members.

Shit really? So if you made sure Wrex didn't blast his face off you get to KEEP Wrex in ME2?

HOLY CRAP I MUST GO BACK!

Most likely yeah. They wouldn't put that option in the first game and not utilise it in the second. The first game was built with the second and possible third in mind.

I think they should've kept Wrex, partly because of the name 'grunt'.
