Electronic Theatre reports on the launch of a new range of accessories compatible with both Xbox 360 and Wii, allowing gamers to charge their controllers via an electro-magnetic field.

Using radio frequency (RF) waves that transmit electrical current from one point to another the Drop ‘N’ Charge will charge up to two batteries per pad, either separately or simultaneously. Unlike typical charging stations, the Drop ‘N’ Charge allows you to fully charge your remote without removing the silicone skin, Wii MotionPlus or having to dock the device. This is unique to the Exspect Drop ‘N’ Charge range and allows charging across several games platforms using one Drop ‘N’ Charge pad.

It might be worth it if you could charge it without placing the controller on the pad. Otherwise, I don't see how it's any better than a normal charging station.

I think the point is that it is multi format, so you wouldnt need a different cable or dock for everything now.

I guess that's true. If you happen to have both a 360 and a Wii, it would be roughly the same cost as buying two different docking stations, plus you can tell all your friends that you're charging your controllers using radio waves .

If they could get this to function like the Xbox 360's play and charge kit, it would be amazing. Never running out of batteries during a firefight would be awesome. It's horrible when it does and you frantically scramble to your play and charge kit.

Meh, I'm fine with the "Play and Charge" kit. Especially since both my consoles are pretty close to my bed anyways.
