Gamers love graphics, to be more specific they love really good and realistic graphics. And CryEngine 3 promises to just that. Developed by Crytek, CryEngine 3 has been officially released for developers to get their hands on. If you don't know how games could potentially look like with the CryEngine 3, check out the video after the jump.

painting as it today releases its third iteration of the CryEngine for license to third-party developers.

As promised in the press release: CryEngine 3 features real-time conversion and optimization of assets and cross-platform changes that "significantly" reduce the risk (and headache) of multiplatform development. So, in layman's terms, it renders really good graphix -- even if you have no idea how to develop on PS3.

"With its scalable graphics and computation it is next-gen-ready and with new features like CryEngine 3 Live Create the best choice for game developers and companies developing serious games applications alike," trumpets Crytek boss Cevat Yerli. "It is the only game engine solution that enables real-time development and can ensure teams are able to maximize their own creativity, save budget and create greater gaming experiences."

    Looks AWESOME.

Question is. How many devs (who actually get this), will spend the time to make the games look as good as tech demos?

It's a good looking game. I wouldn't go as far as actually calling it a good game though, it is clearly style over substance.

Nice. I wonder how long it will take for a developer to release a game using the engine?

If they started now? At least a couple years I'd think, more if they wanted it epic looking like in the demo.

Well, it depends on just how easy and quicker that engine makes development.

It doesn't look that different from CryEngine 2, it's not supposed too though. Crytek focused on the engine to be compatible to all the serious gaming consoles (which means everything but Wii). Crytek's CEO said the REAL next-gen will be seen around 2012, when technology & hardware develops some more.

You'd have to be a particularly sad person to be weeping with joy at the release of a new game engine.
