In a press release an an e-mail sent out to their Atlus Faithful mailing list, Atlus USA has announced that their latest Shin Megami Tensei title, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, will be seeing a North American release in 2010 on March 10th.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is the first real Megaten game since the PS2's Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Since then, we've seen spinoffs in the form of Persona 3 and 4, Digital Devil Saga, and Devil Survivor. However, the series will be retuning to its roots in essentially what is Shin Megami Tensei IV with Strange Journey.

A black void has appeared at the South pole, and humanity has sent an elite group of individuals, the Strike Team to explore and investigate this void. You can team up and fuse demons found inside the void to get to the center of the mystery.

The game's official website can be found here. The game released in Japan back on October 8th to favorable reviews.

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced Shin Megami Tensei®: Strange Journey™, a first-person science fiction RPG for Nintendo DS™. A startlingly original entry in the award-winning Shin Megami Tensei universe, Strange Journey takes the heralded RPG franchise to exciting new frontiers. The game has already released in Japan to strong demand and critical acclaim, earning a 10/9/9/8 from Famitsu, the highest score the popular magazine has ever awarded a Shin Megami Tensei title.

In the near future, a mysterious, growing, black void appears at the Earth's southern pole. Unable to determine its cause and powerless to stop its deadly encroachment, humanity sends an elite team of explorers into the heart of the phenomenon, just as Strange Journey's look and feel represent a return to the heart of Shin Megami Tensei, bringing to mind the all-time classic Nocturne™. With over 300 demons to bribe, coerce, and negotiate with to gain assistance in battle, Strange Journey is every bit the deep, rewarding RPG experience fans have come to expect from the SMT franchise, yet delivered with a fresh new sci-fi story that taps into mature themes of morality and introspection.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey for Nintendo DS is currently scheduled for release on March 10, 2010.

Personally, I'd prefer a re-release of Nocturne as it is so god damned rare and impossible to find for a reasonable price. But new stuff is good too.

Nocturne already had two print runs, the second of which knocked the price down a bit. Last time I was on Amazon I found it for $30.

Devil Survivor was my first experience with the series, so if this is anything like that, well, woo!
