Giving your band's name to a best selling videogame has revealed to be a smart move. So, it looks like Rock Band will exploit Green Day's huge success to release another DLC, followed by an entire game later in 2010.

Green Day (the multi-platinum selling and Grammy Award winning group), Harmonix (the leading developer of music-based games) MTV Games, and Warner Bros./Reprise Records have today announced at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards that they are collaborating on the standalone title Green Day: Rock Band.

Rock Band and Green Day. I don't think I could imagine anything worse. Why the need for a full game? I'd expect this from Activision but EA looked like they were actually becoming a good company.

Because there not making money off the franchise anymore. At least not the amount of cash they used to make There main sales are in dlc and that just won't cut it for the expenses they make.

At least there not going overboard like Guitar Hero but they sure could use the extra cash, that or heavily raise the dlc content.

Though I do agree, why greenday?
It's not that there a bad band, just not something I could see an entire RB game based out of.

Think of it as a giant track pack, because thats basically what it is. If it didn't export, then yeah, it'd be shitty.

Yeah, honestly, Green Day is one of my top 4 favorite bands, but I don't think I like this. It just doesn't fit.

I think that only bands with a lot of musical skill should have games like this. While Green Day doesn't exactly suck at playing music(a lot of power-chords, though), I think they've always been a much more lyrically driven band.

Yeah, the Beatles were a chord based band as well, but at least they had harmonies on the vocal side.

I like what Rock Band does with these band centered games though. They really know what to do with retrospective things.

I guess they want Green Day for the youth. Since the Beatles were more or less for the people who were alive when the Beatles still made music. After that a lot more things should be open to them.

This seems neat, Green Day are one of my favourite bands, I might get this, but we'll see... Now if they was to make a Linkin Park rock band that would be a pre-order day one purchase.

I have no problem with these band games like everyone else does. Well, atleast the ones HMX does. They need to export, if not, then they must have a pretty damn good reason why not. The Beatles didn't because this was the only way to get them in the game. Green Day is already in RB as DLC so I knew from the beginning it would.

But atleast HMX is going after highly popular/legendary acts. GD is insanely popular; The Beatles are legendary in every possible way. I guess I can't say that for any of the Activision band games. As much as I love Metallica, that game never got a purchase from me.

Mmm, is that the smell of fail I smell?

If you're gonna pick a full band game, AT LEAST PICK A BAND THAT HAS FUN SONGS TO PLAY, ALL THEIR SONGS ARE BORING CHORDGASM'S I COULD FC WITH MY EYES CLOSE.

ALSO, I'M TYPING EVERYTHING IN CAPITALS FOR DRAMATIC EFFECTS =D

I still maintain that Rock Band: Dream Theater would probably be the funnest game in history.

If this is how HMX is going to be. I guess we'll just have to wait until all the members of Pink Floyd die to get a new decent band specific music game that I would buy.

I mean, why didn't the just release all of Dookie onto DLC? That way, we have every single good Green Day song on Rock Band.

My guess is if the record label/band is willing to let HMX do this, why say no? Its exportable, so why not? Would HMX just say no and turn them away? If they did they'd probably go ask the "other guys" to do it. And you know they would. And it'd probably turn out to be 40% GD and 60% other bands. No, if I'm gettin a band-centric game, I want the game full of songs from THAT band. Kinda why I want HMX to get a hold of Floyd so I can get my hands on 45+ songs from them instead of 15-20.

But if GD was willing to give HMX all they've got, why not compile it into why huge whopping "Track Pack"? Makes it a little more cost effective than spreading out their albums at $20 on the PSN/Live.

I was only joking. But you did make some great points. Everyone should stop complaining. It's not like you ABSOLUTELY MUST BUY IT, OR ELSE.

Well it wasn't just a reponse to you, but to everyone who's complaining. Its annoying. I can't wait for this, but it seems other people are taking this as the end of the world. They need to chill and realize its not like its going to influence the RB platform that much, if at all.

HMX released 3 games this year, no reason why they can't release the same next year, like RB3 maybe? I take it thats what everyone's bitching about. Well, there's no indication to say that HMX WON'T release RB3 this year just because a GD:RB is coming.

The Beatles was a great pick, but Green Day? Wut? I mean, I don't dislike them but they don't really strike me as one of those bands that should have a game dedicated too them. Instead I think they should have picked The Red Hot Chili Peppers, its a bad that alot of people like, and they have alot of diverse songs, but meh, that's just me I guess.
