One spark of inspiration and a bunch of creative and dedicated minds is all it takes to make a game come to life.

The folks over at NeoGAF are doing just that.

The over 100-strong volunteer NeoGAF forum member army that is the Grimoire Assembly Forge have officially announced the development of Dudebro — My Shit is F----- Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It's Straight Up Dawg Time, due for a summer 2010 release on a PC or Mac near you. The game is a top-down shooter built on the Unity 3D engine, looking to attack all of the stereotypes that mainstream video games are rife with, yet bringing old-school gameplay and action.

Take control of John Dudebro, the protector of all that is bro, and voiced by none other than legendary voice actor Jon St.John, the voice of Duke Nukem. Dudebro and his partner, Habemus Chicken, will need to save the world from the dudes that threaten the world's brodiocity, against the swarms of video game's expendable enemies.

Grimoire Assembly Forge announced Monday it is developing a 3D top-down shooter titled “Dudebro™ — My Shit Is F----- Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time” for release this summer for PCs and Macs.

“Dudebro™ II” follows the exploits of elite soldiers John Dudebro™ and his sidekick Habemus Chicken as they chase anyone who threatens the world’s brodiocity — an arms dealer, a voodoo priest, an evil glee club and more. Along the way, they’ll have to fight through swathes of expendable enemies, including aliens, zombies and even yetis.

Featuring the vocal talents of Jon St. John, the legendary voice actor of Duke Nukem*, “Dudebro™ II” both parodies and pays homage to some of mainstream video gaming’s most prevalent tropes: super-macho protagonists, excessive violence and profanity, chauvinistic overtones and rampant immaturity. But it also pays respect to old-school gaming, with power-ups, pixel art story sequences and ridiculous boss fights.

Although “Dudebro™ II” is the first in the series, it has the number two in its name because sequels are always more awesome than original games — as all hardcore gamer dudes know.

The game is built on the Unity 3D engine, which can be run within any browser on PC or Mac, or run offline. “Dudebro™ II” will be a free download when it is launched on www.dudebro2.com.

Grimoire Assembly Forge is predominantly comprised of members of NeoGAF, the preeminent video game industry discussion community. The Dudebro™ team is over 100 volunteers strong, all unpaid. They are distributed all over the planet, from North America to Europe to Asia.
