It's the press release that we have been waiting for... and it's finally here. The Playstation 3's version 2.0 news has finally been revealed in the form of a Threespeach update and emails to those on Sony's Press Release list (yes GameGrep received the email as well).

Rather than write loads on each feature, which is done well in the article it self, I think giving you the bullet points of it should suffice:

  • You can turn on the PS3 remotely using the PSP
  • Creation of Music and Photo Playlists is now possible
  • Customisation of the XMB menu screen is now possible (colour, brightness and new themes)
  • Information board added to the XMB

"You can turn on the PS3 remotely using the PSP"

Not really necessary in my opinion, maybe could of done a bit more but it's good that you can make playlists and so-on.

Uhhhhh, that means you can be in another state and turn on your PS3 dude. That's the point.

But you can already do this. I thought the PSP update with the last PS3 update did this. Maybe its to strengthen the signal.

Why would you want to turn your PS3 on from another country?

To access all your photos, music, messages from other people, and videos that are on your PS3 HDD from your PSP. It streams everything to your PSP. So that means you don't have to have an 80gb memory stick for your PSP (which they don't even make) you can just stream it all from your PS3.

Disappointing. I'm very excited about the PSP remote control, but STILL no in-game XMB or custom soundtracks at this point just has me at a loss for words. On the other hand, I probably just let people hype me up by listening to them rant about why 2.0 is going to be so big. It doesn't really matter that its an anniversary, its just another firmware update. I just hope they get on these other features very soon.

Wow, this is the fastest rising topic I have ever seen. It's been available for 30 minutes and already nearly 60 rates.

And to think you had to search for it, when I got it by email (just joking )

In all honesty, I'm extremely surprised with the attention, but it is the sort of news that gets attention.

And I too would have liked the ability to play your own music whilst playing the game... theres always 3.0

People may want to compare this to the Unofficial: Playstation 3 Version 2.0 Update List

    Fairly disappointing....

That confused the *bleep* out of me, at first I thought this was a new unofficial list...

The update is pretty cool, But im still pissed that there is no ingame XMB! that was the biggest thing I wanted. Hopefully there is still some stuff that we don't know about. I love the new XMB designs and stuff, they look cool. Still pissed that there isn't ingame XMB

I just relised, look at the menu, they added a new menu. Like how it has 'game, music' there is another one right after network and before friends. I wonder what it is?

The only real disappointing thing about this list, is the lack of In-Game XMB...

I mean, patches for each game to play music in-game is great, but so is the fact you could read/send messages >_< Beats having to quit if you want to read and send messages...

    Stoopid Sony -_-

Guys calm down, there is also a note in the US PS Blog that there are also some OTHER features that will be releasing with 2.0 that they're not announcing yet, so we'll find out tommorow for sure.

I am calm, I think some of the stuff in the update is cool. I just wish the ingame XMB was on that list.

Some of these updates, mostly the ones involving PSPs are ridiculous.

Few people would have both a PSP and a PS3, which are doubtlessly the highest priced systems on the market.

      Wow, you're SO smart...

Dood, if someone has a PS3, they aren't exactly unlikely to have a PSP, since money is obviously not much of an issue...

Especially with the release of the PSP-2000 line >_>

Now, I'm not saying that every PS3 owner has a PSP, but I AM saying it wouldn't exactly be uncommon...

I have both a PSP and PS3 for example...

As it is, it doesn't take THAT much effort to offer this feature...

    Meh.
I really like the ability to change the themes for the PSP. I just wish it hadn't had taken so long.
Least PS3 owners got it fairly quick.
