Metal Gear Solid 4 - Details On Limited Edition Version

Krunal | April 10, 2008 | Press Release | Playstation 3
It's become somewhat of a tradition now to sell two versions of the top-selling games. One version is the normal one, and the other is a 'limited edition' which is in no ways limited, besides the fact that it may limit you from buying you it, since it's slightly more pricey - however usually the extra dollars/pounds/currency you'll use to buy this game are well worth it. However, is that the case with Metal Gear Solid 4?

With both games available on the 12th of June 2008 (exclusively at GameStop in the US) which one will you be picking... here's a quick summary of the email I recieved:

Standard Edition $59.99
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Full Game - duh)
    Metal Gear Online (Starter Pack)

Limited Edition $84.99
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Full Game - again duh)
    Metal Gear Online (Starter Pack)
Collectible Packaging with Exclusive Artwork by Yoji Shinkawa
Blu-ray Disc featuring two "Making of" documentaries

Personally it reminds me a lot of the MGS2 EU pack that they came out with which although not limited, came with a documentary on the making off... personally I'm thinking of going for the first since I'm not a big Art collector, and $25 does seem quite a bit just for a documentary and Packaging with the Artwork...

Whichever edition is packed in with the European Metal Gear Solid 4 + DualShock 3 + PlayStation 3 hardware bundle is the one I'm grabbing.

I thought you already had a PS3... or was I simply mistaken?

I don't have a PlayStation 3 of my own. Been waiting for the right hardware and game line-up before making a purchase. Right now that means Metal Gear Solid 4 and the DualShock 3.

Ah, so I was mistaken. Ah well... means I'll have had more practice for when I play you online in one of the games....

*hopes he doesn't lose to you as terribly as he lost to Ameer in R:FoM*

I have the limited edition reserved. These bastards better hurry up and give me my code. So is Metal Gear Online on the same disc as the main game or is it separate?

      Xenctuary | April 10, 2008
It's a separate disc in the same retail package.

Pre-ordered Limited Edition, I figured they would do something like that....I guess the "Making of" should be more interesting, never was a fan of Concept art unless I could save it in my harddrive.

$25 more for some artwork and a making of disc that I'll likely never watch? No thanks, I'll get the standard one.

I hope the making of is long. I really love to watch making of featurettes about things I love but usually they don't really show too much of how they made things. I mean, I want detailed looks at how they make stuff. All too often these aren't detailed enough for me. I want them to be really informative.

I agree with you Aggro, and I'm fairly sure that the contents of the 'Making off' will eventually find its way onto the Internet somehow, even if it's a shaky cam... and even so, it'll most likely be dubbing, and I do hate the dubbings. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the Japanese do make the best games (well the ones that I like, bar GTA) and they don't seem to speak much English 'on-air'

No point getting a limited Addition for me, For the price and what it has, sounds more like a ripoff. The Standard for me as well.

The cover of the LE edition is enough for me to spend an extra $25 for it.
