Nintendo are, as you may know, having some difficulty balancing newbies and normal gamers. The below article goes in depth.

Nintendo argues that some people hooked by the Wii’s ultra-simple tennis and bowling games will lose their sense of intimidation about video games and gravitate toward games like “Super Paper Mario.'’ That’s ultra-wishful thinking. It’s never going to happen in any significant numbers.

What may happen, to concede a different point to Nintendo, is that
some lapsed gamers may pick up where they left off years ago, attracted by the originality of the Wii’s controls. They indeed might be “Super Paper Mario'’ buyers.

I might as well say that I feel Nintendo can handle this, and that done correctly it could work out very well for them, perhaps they should have some sort of seal of player recommend.

    Hardcore.
    Semi-skilled.
    Average.
    Advanced Beginner.
    Basic Beginner.

    Or maybe just:

    Semi-Classic Style.
    Wii Always New.

It would keep people understanding what the game play is like. If Nintendo put out Two for each themselves each year it would work out well.

Sidenote: Although I could probably handle most of them I would probably look for games in the 'Semi-Classic', 'Semi-Skilled' catagories first.

I think the Wii easily appeals to all audiences. I know a ton of people who have one, or want one, who are totally different. Some had played very few video games before, and others are hardcore gamers. I don't think the Wii Wobbles, it just wins. =)

I said may. I could see a power struggle becoming more apparent over time. But they can handle it.

My parents both get confused about when to let go of A in golf and B in bowling, but they love the Wii. They like the easy games with only two basic buttons, like Excite Truck. Anything else, however, is out of their gaming reach so they give up.

I would say that if Nintendo is very careful they can shift non-gamers. But it will be a hard road for Nintendo.

They are still doing it good, aren't they? Most people just left videogames for a few years and the Wii attracted them, like stated in the article.
