Details for Resident Evil 5's co-op have been revealed, and fans will be happy know it will feature the option jump in/jump out at any time online. Also featured will be the Mercenaries mini-game, some MGS-style moves (wall-hugging and ducking/dodging), and a few other surprises, which you can read below if you don't mind some spoilers.

The game is apparently to be released in 2009, not this year as many had hoped. However, according to Capcom's latest financial report, it will be before March 31, the end of the current fiscal year.

The game will apparently take place in a nameless African country near a line of active volcanoes that stretch across Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Kenya. When the game begins, everyone will at first be uninfected, and this time around it'll be a long-dormant virus released through volcanic activity that turns the locals into zombie-like killers.

Moreover (and you might consider this an even bigger spoiler), the preview states the game will feature a number of classic Resident Evil characters (with Albert Wesker and Sherry Birkin being confirmed), including flashback episodes that'll fill the player in on character histories that haven't been explored yet.

I can remember when the 360 was still brand new and this game was a matter of months away. This was back in 2005 and alas the games isn't out yet, i have lost major interest in this title, first wall hugging and cover mechanics and now co-op this game is going to be way to easy.

I assume cranking up the difficulty would help things, hey?

Couple of problems with the Co-op feature. The Online worked with the Outbreak series, mostly because the swarm of monsters would never stop coming. Seeing as RE5 is basically an action game by now, you're REQUIRED to kill EVERYTHING that moves. Since you were able to do that by yourself in RE4 easily, RE5 shouldn't be much of a problem with a huge arsenal of weapons at your disposal.

"Pssh, only 20 of these guys?"

    "Man, watch this shit..."

I imagine enemies will deal out more damage and/or there will be more of them.

You guys ever play any campaign games cooperatively?

You talk as if it hasn't happened already before. Here's a good example; think Halo 3 Co-op.

        Care to explain that?

I've played Halo 3's story line with only one other player and I've played it with three others. Of course, when you get that third and fourth player, you'll want to activate the skulls to increase the difficulty. By itself, though, it's still pretty damn hard.

A good example for my point is Gears of War. Ever play that, Seeker X? Insane, by yourself, is just that.. and with a buddy, it's still pretty *bleep*ing hard.

Personally playing through Campaign in Legendary with ONE other player and still be ridiculously easy is my point. Talking about Gears of War, first time playing it Co-op in Hardcore is *bleep*ing child's play, I don't expect much from Insane in Co-op mode.

Bottom line, the difficulty of the game in co-op mode should be altered NATURALLY. Not having to choose the last difficulty just so you can have yourself a challenge. Hopefully, RE5 will actually do so.

I understand what you're saying, but that'd be ridiculously hard to do due to the fact that no two players are the same.

And as far as Gears goes, Insane is 10x harder than Hardcore.

So I guess this is Resident Evil: every other successful action game edition. I really do miss the old RE.

I used to joke about the sheer ignorance of questions like, "who gives a shit?," but it seems like I'm responding to these every week now. If I said something about it, wouldn't that give you at least a slight hint that I give a shit? If a thousand people are voicing their concerns on gas prices going up, but you don't drive, is it a smart thing to ask, "who gives a shit?" All jokes aside, what the hell is wrong with you people?

Completely agree. I hate it when people 'ask' that. Rhetorical obvious questions ftl.

Co-Op sounds interesting, kind of wish it was off-line as well, though. I too miss the old RE days. 1, 2 and Code: Veronica in particular. Those were scary. Don't get me wrong, 3 and 4 were pretty good, but it has slipped away from what I thought was RE.

Ok sometimes I don't use the right words.Actually it's just that I'm always sure people will be smart enough to get what I'm saying.Regardless if I say it completely correct or not.I was basically saying that I don't care how the game is.I just don't see why there should be any complaints about co-op.

Personally I think RE with co-op (our Outbreak never had online) is the greatest thing to happen to RE.I think RE5 is a perfect game to have co-op.

I have never said that RE4 ACTUALLY felt like RE (the others before were actually a little scary). But RE5 looks to be more of a blend between new and classic RE.By this I mean that RE5 looks like it may be a little scary.

I used to be the kind of person that hated change. Now change does not bother me.Because of that, I now never care when a game is drastically changed. As long as it has some resemblance to the original premise.

      Hell no!
I'd prefer us to have our disputes and not be on the same page all the time, that way, it keeps things interesting. Otherwise, it'd be dull, heh.

Though I do admit, arguments on GameGrep have gone 'extreme' on more than one occasion.

Never said RE5 SHOULDN'T have it, I'm saying there will be some problems I hope they think about before executing this.

Reason Outbreak's Co-op really shined was because each scenario was too hard for someone to complete by themselves, even for Outbreak Vets; and I speak from experience here.

That is REALLY up for debate.

Well this is really the part where a lot of fans got screwed over. The only thing they brought from the classics was the characters...but hey it's a popular appeal to shoot everything in sight with "Matrix-esque" moves and pass it off as some sort of "Neo Survival Horror"; can't really blame Capcom for making that move.

Claire is popular among RE fans. I think she is more popular than she should be.

      ergo, over rated.

I've yet to meet another Claire fan besides Seeker, tbh. No one I know IRL likes her that much, they prefer to use Jill, say that Claire was...boring and a carbon copy of Jill. The nerve of them.

But yeah, Claire is going to be in that RE CGI film. So hah!

        chautemoc.
