With the new Wii Sonic game already having been confirmed, Staf over at Blue Blue has just received his issue containing information on the recently announced game. And dare I say... it sounds good.

Notables:

  • Evil bad guy is a corrupt King Arthur
  • Wii Remote flicks will execute basic slash, and has the opportunity to be more advanced
  • Sonic is controlled with the Control Stick (as opposed to Secret Rings)
  • The sword is a talking sword named Calibur
  • You can smite civilian townfolk
  • Will utilize an item system, and can trade items with friends online
  • Jun Senoue will return to do the music, adding Celtic flavor to classic Sonic tunes.
  • Stages will have branching paths and incorporate exploration elements
  • Some sections will have side-scrolling 2D parts
  • Will have skill system from Sonic and the Secret Rings, but won't have it interfere too much with the game's speed and tempo
  • Sonic's friends will appear as characters like Sonic and the Secret Rings
  • Multiple playable characters, and they are optional. Knuckles, Shadow confirmed.
  • Possible multiplayer mode
  • Battle system will have a special gauge

Please check out the full set of details gleamed from the issue at the source.

I’ve received my issue of the Issue #232 September 2008 Nintendo Power with Sonic and the Black Knight as the cover story. Some of the key points that I think should be worth mentioning with direct NP text put in quotes:

I am actually gonna be optomistic for this game. I have a soft spot for Sonic games, so I am gonna give it a chance.

I know what you mean Zero and X.

Anyway I will be attacking any human with this Sword. No humans in any Sonic game.

Why can't they just do a classic Sonic game?

If this game didn't have Sonic in it it would get no attention at all.

Doesn't sound too bad so far though

"As thus Sonicke ye Hedgehogge proceeded to wyrne ye waye to ye Castle where would destroynge, of ye olde fatte manne named Manne of Egge, to the rescuynge of his squire Miles of Prower and his fair maiden Amy of Rose, and ye Emeraldes of Chaosse with and so he turne yellowe."

There are usually two ways "Arthurian" games can go. One is that it ends up being nothing like Arthurian legend and instead becomes a generic knight party with little to no accuracy at all. The other is that, in an attempt to keep it true to the legend, it's full of Americans trying to do stereotypical upper-class English accents and failing ricidulously. Hopefully this can avoid these difficulties.

Lol, I'd like to see how a Sonic game could keep true to the legend of King Arthur. I don't remember reading about him fighting hedgehogs.

Also, what's Nelo Angelo from DMC1 doing in a Sonic game? That's wierd.

As I read the details, the good/bad news just keep going back and forth. So it's hard to tell whether to have faith in this game or not.

WTF a sword? When would Sonic need a sword when he has spikes, speed? But the game looks awesome. And Knukles would be a awesome choice for the game play for me atleast. XD
