Everyone's favorite building blocks are looking to build more than just houses and spacecrafts -- Microsoft and LEGO announced a LEGO MMO, massively multiplayer online LEGO game, referred to as "LEGO Universe" for the PC.

LEGO Universe encourages creativity, in a world where players literally create and collaborate as they go. Players are free to carouse in the LEGO world with others, defeat baddies to earn bricks (which function as your building supplies), and take up cooperative quests with one another.

This game is scheduled for release sometime in 2009. For more information on LEGO Universe check out the source article.

"LEGO Universe will let gamers have a hand in literally building their in-game universe. Although LEGO games (LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Batman) have been popular on consoles, this is the first LEGO MMO."

"The game will bring the LEGO play experience online, encouraging creativity and collaboration between fans all over the world. Within LEGO Universe, players will be able to create, build, quest and socialize together. As LEGO avatars, of course."

What the hell? The scenes in the concept art look nothing like LEGO.

I know, a little too round even for concept art. I assume it's just ideas being pitched for level design and such.

Lol, I used to be a lego fanatic. But the screens don't look much like legos, just lego characters. :/
