UGO Games Blog goes hands-on with Defense Grid: The Awakening

Recently, the UGO Games Blog got to try out Defense Grid: The Awakening, a game of the Tower Defense genre. During the game, you will be placed in a number of old research facilities, and you're job is to protect them from the dreaded aliens that are surrounding them. They're in search of the rare Power Cores.

UGO described the various ways you are able to upgrade your towers. Cannons, Flamethrowers, and Lasers are just some things you can add on. In addition, the rendered graphics were used from the Gamebryo engine, the same one that helped in the making of Oblivion.

Defense Grid: The Awakening is being developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and is coming out for the PC and XBLA. The PC version is coming out on November 5th, while the XBLA one is schedule for release sometime in 2009.
The game uses a simple green/amber/red color system to determine a tower’s--and enemy’s--level of power. Green units are the weakest, while red are the strongest. But those colors also correspond to the number of Power Cores that an alien can steal from the facility. Some of the stronger units that manage to trudge in and get away with three cores may make it near the exit with them before you take them down.
