Siliconera's Spencer Yip with Sting's upcoming board game RPG Dokapon Kingdom, set to hit the Wii and PS2 later this year in October. This game isn't a minigame compilation akin to Mario Party.

Landing on spaces on Dokapon Kingdom's game board will trigger various events, including combat. Dokapon Kingdom has a one-on-one two turn battles, where each involved party will get an attack phase and a defense phase. The series is largely a rock-paper-scissors type of system, with whichever player going first decided by a 50-50 chance that can be weighted in either favor with items. The penalties for losing a battle are heavy: get sent back to start, lose items, and turns. Giving up in a fight is slightly less hurtful, but your punishment is determined by the player who you gave up to in the battle. Movement is controlled by a manipulable spinner, which you can use items to spawn multiple spinners or target an exact number.

Dokapon Kingdom is set to release in the US on October 14th. The game is being published by Atlus USA. The official site for the game can be found here.

Dokapon Kingdom is the Rock Band equivalent of turn based RPG genre, it’s the kind of game best experienced with friends and a load of fun in a group. While Dokapon Kingdom looks like a cousin of Mario Party it does not have any mini-games. Spaces on the board game map represent items given off by a spinner, random events, or combat. Yes, combat. Dokapon Kingdom has turn based combat where two players duke it out to the death.
