Britain-based magazine PC Gamer has given us a little sneak peak of the RTS Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, and CVG has kindly put it on the internet for us to see.

As you may have guessed, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 is a sequel to the the first game and all of its add-ons. It's been noted that three races have been confirmed for the game: Eldar, Space Marines, and Orks. Throughout the campaign mode, you have to travel from planet to planet and take care of different problems.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 is set to release in Q1 2009 exclusively for the PC.

All our base are belong to Relic. They took them away. You don't build anything in Dawn of War II, you just have four infantry squads and an objective. This is a dramatically different game, as much RPG as RTS. Each squad is led by a named hero, and each hero levels up and nabs loot.

As a Warhammer (and 40k) minature fan since the 80s, psyched for tihs. First Dawn of War = awesome and it seems like this will be more epic in every way... JOY! So happy!

Now, for someone to make a 40k MMO that is as good as Mythic's take of the original Warhammer.

Honestly I'm looking more forward to this game than Starcraft 2.

You and I both... I like blizzard, don't get me wrong, but SC2 and Diablo 3 = more of the same. Compaired to Fallout 3 which at least kept what was cool with the original and tried to deliver a more modernized gaming experience.

I'm expecting this game to be a breath of fresh air for me, since I still play Starcraft. DoW was very fun from a single player perspective but I heard there were tons of balancing issues for multiplayer after they added so much stuff from all the expansions.

Starcraft 2 however, is the game I will be spending the most time with online because Blizzard just knows how to make tightly balanced RTSes.

Huh, no base building? Limited amounts of units? What are relic thinking? Sure I have no doubt that this'll be a fun game, it sounds great, but now we can't have huge battles and have our base pumping out some more units. We've got limited numbers (more so than DoW) and that bites.

Let see how it plays... I feel that at times the original DoW became unbalanced - I'm thinking (really hoping, because I see your point) that the focus on smaller unit #s = more strategic and better unit balancing.

Smaller unit numbers doesn't necessarily mean it's more strategic. They're just focusing on micro with a handful of units rather than letting you micro a large army. They're also removing the whole macro element of the game, which really is questionable. But this way, it does stay more faithful to the table top game. We just have to wait and see how it turns out.

It's cool how the campaign is playable in co-op, many fun RTSes are missing that.
