Takes a look at Darkfall, an MMORPG being developed by Aventurine, and the fact that it's doing things very differently from other MMORPGs. Hopefully, this will spur some new ideas in the genre and help pull it away from the current mold of MMORPGs.

Now that I've caught your attention, let me say that while I like the fact Darkfall is treading a lot of new ground, I still can't recommend it as the MMORPG to play, even if it does pull off all of its goals. I'm certain the game will appeal to a large group of gamers though if they pull it off. The reason for this will be apparent later. However, I do think that it could be a valuable proof of concept for a lot of things I would like to see in the genre.

I still have this one classified as vaporware until it is officially out. I remember reading about it 5-6 years ago. I do applaud them trying to do something new -- seems like most MMOs are just EQ or WoW clones (depending on which one you played first) -- but I'm not sure their ideas will actually work.

I agree that this one could easily go up in smoke, but the implications of some of the ideas they're going for in regards to other MMORPGs are really what I'm interested in. Even if this fails, I hope to see some of their ideas in future MMOs.
