A look at Backbreaker, an upcoming football game for the Xbox 360 and PS3 that uses NaturalMotion's Euphoria engine to create realistic action on the field by simulating the motions rather than simply using preset animations.

Ut-oh, You used the world "Football" for "Grid-iron".

The Brits are going to have a field-day.

ohhhh, so American's are supposed to bend over backwards and call soccer football just because that is what they call it? Why? I'm pretty sure different countries have different names for different things. I didn't realize that was a problem?

It's not. It never has been. No-one has ever cared.

Well it works the same way as anything else. If any single person does care so much as to cause something over it then they're obviously so dense that they simply don't deserve the time of day, thus relegating them to below no-one, a living nothing if you will. In the same way American's who think they're better then everyone else or French people who think any food other then French food is garbage or any over-ignorant person in the world is. To think of it as anything other then a difference in speech is the epitome of stupidity, whichever side of the spectrum you're on.

So I suppose what I meant to say in the original comment was no-one who isn't a douche has ever cared.

The new American take on the English language has changed so many words and phrases for things, the whole 'Soccer/football' thing seems pointless to care about. I'm English, and I don't care what different countries call it.

I saw this game in action about 8 months ago in the event in California. It look really sweet. The details on the 3d audience members sticks in my mind.

Definitely the coolest thing about the game though was the NaturalMotion stuff. It really isn't hype and PR-babble: the in-game physics are really awesome. The tackles were very realistic, and different every time, depending on where you hit the dudes.

If they can just get some solid, non-fancy football game mechanics, this game will be a hit.

I'd love this for football games and I'm glad some company finally pulled this off. Some of the tackling animations look awkward as the players look like they die on impact (including the tacklers) instead of seeing them continue to move their own body. The pileup at the end is a good example of players going limp for no reason, the ones jumping on top of the pile.

EA needs to "borrow" this. I love my NCAA Football 2005 game but I'm used to seeing the same tackles over and over and which ones I can break out of.
