IGN have gotten their hands on the demo for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and they were very impressed, claiming that the game delivers a "technically stunning, massively atmospheric experience".
More info on the game will be revealed at this year's E3.
Before we get started, if you've not already checked out IGN's exhaustive first look at Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, do it now. Our hands-on played out across the exact same demo level we've already covered in earnest so, this time around, we're concentrating on how it plays. And, guess what? It's Silent Hill but not as you know it. Sure, it's draped in the series' classic trimmings – that all pervasive fog, fuzz, crackle and industrial clang of Akira Yamaoka's unmistakable soundscapes – but, actually get stuck into the game, and the vast chasm between Silent Hill of yore and this total 're-imagining' of the survival horror series is instantly apparent.
If you're one of the many series fans who've bemoaned the fact that Konami's first franchise foray on Wii isn't a totally new adventure, then you're in for a shock. Shattered Memories might be inspired by events of the original Silent Hill game - both sharing a protagonist in the form of Harry Mason, plus a handful of other returning character – but, from the moment Harry's car overturns and daughter Cheryl disappears into the fog of Silent Hill, it's clear that Shattered Memories is spinning a very different yarn.
