RatedG4Gamer, Paul Williams takes an look at Halo: ODST. Microsoft's Latest intstallment to the Halo Series. We find out that Halo: ODST will be featuring a new "Fire Fight Mode" which is much like Gears of War 2's Horde.

The Halo trilogy has taken millions of players world-wide on an epic, exciting and sometimes emotional journey of hope, despair and survival against all odds. As Microsoft's flagship franchise, we would all be silly for thinking they might sit there and let it go stale.

My thoughts exactly lol. People must have low thresholds for emotion if Halo titles set them off..

And that's one huge problem with the Halo fanbase, aside from playing the world's "My First FPS" and LIKING IT.

See, here's the deal: Halo is based in the Marathon universe, taking place years before it. If you had bothered to play the Marathon games (such as the one on Xbox Live Marketplace at the moment), you would not only play a kick-ass AND FAR BETTER GAME THAN HALO, you would also get a fantastic narrative.

It saddens me that the writers are wasting their time on Halo, when it doesn't deserve it. Oh well, there's always Team Fortress 2.

wasting their time on Halo? That comment got be buggered Reenee. I own both systems(PS3, 360) and I would have to say Halo is one of best titles I have played. I'm not saying that it is the best FPS in the world but the story of the game has really sucked people in. Hence why its sales can do all the talking and then along with that the developers know that the Halo series can continue to grow and make them money. Eg Halo Wars a RTS and now the soon Halo: ODST and Reach.

Really now? Were you truly grasped by the character development of Master Chief? Were you enthralled by the twisting plot? Could you relate to all the love interest?

No, you couldn't, because there wasn't any of that. Outside of an excellent musical score, none of the Halos ever brought a decent plot to the table. They just strung together something good enough for people to play through.

I think that the Halo universe is cleverly done in the respect that theres layers of story and for those with huge interest, they can peel back the present storyline to find interesting backstories. But in saying that, the Books and marketing of the lore that the series contain has helped in that regard incredibly.

I wanna have a Halo marathon and run through all 4 titles present so far. Prehaps I will enjoy what the series has to offer more when I run 1 game after the next.

Having said that, I have to agree with Red 9. The problem is the game tries to feel so epic and important but seems to be played out in such simplistic fashion that its all for nothing. I really wanted more story from the campaigns. But thats ok. ODST looks quite appealing!

The backstory provided by the novels and other such media outside the video game do indeed flesh it out considerably, that much is true. It's much the same with Killzone 2.

I just wish the games themselves would actually include it in the game itself, like Metal Gear Solid has done over its many iterations.

Yes, the story behind the universe in Halo is extremely detailed. In halo 3 there is quite a bit of story with the codecs and stuff you find in the missions. But the Story of the games themselves aren't great but the storyline of Halo IS great.

But then so many people complain about MGS's story for doing that XD

Try as I might, i cannot get interested in a game i KNOW is just a spin-off for cash. Theirs a difference between filling in a blank we absolutely MUST know, and then creating a new character (Who looks similiar to the old) and then following him through a period of time where we all just assumed what was going on and where content with it. An example is MGS3, I wanted to know more about Big Boss so i got that. It's developed practically into it's on series. With Big Boss now the main character of three games, two on PSP.
