Another one of Neoseeker's E3 2009 floor impression pieces, this time we look at Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 from Vicarious Visions and Activision.

One of the cooler features in this sequel to the 2006 hit is Fusion attacks, which allow superheroes to combine their powers and destroy the new enemy swarms. Oh, and Deadpool is awesome, as always.

Just as an introduction, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 story was inspired and heavily driven by the Marvel Civil War series. Superhoroes are placed in modern narrative where they must choose sides in a United States driven by unrest and mistrust toward masked crimefighters. It comes down to liberties with Captain America or security with Iron Man / Tony Stark, whose side supports registering secret identities.

Off the bat, we are treated to some heavy gameplay footage using heroes on either side. To start, the devs use Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, and Venom as they assault Castle Doom, later moving on to Juggernaut, Storm, Songbird, and Captain America in daytime Washington D.C., trying to stop terrorists, with pop-ins from Thor, Deadpool and others. Through the demonstration, we see several mechanics come into play.

Great article, glad to see they didn't change Deadpool to fit with the Origins style.

I figured Venom would be playable; and I def dig on the ability to spend XP on the fly without pausing to the menu.

That's sweet, easy way to upgrade our characters. I believe we can switch them out easier as well. Disappointed that Venom is Mac Gargan's version, but it is in sync with Civil War so eh.

You shouldn't have to worry. They'll most likely have the Eddie Brock version as a skin to unlock.

Oh, I forgot to mention in the article (added it in earlier today) that on top of the 24 heroes you start off with, more will be released in the future as DLC. When I asked if the DLC would be free or not, Vicarious couldn't confirm.

    Keep your fingers crossed.

Wait...so there's no unlockable characters? Just the 24 we start off with? That'll suck.

Not sure about the DLC being free though, the first game's packs weren't free.

Oh, I just meant that the game will have 24 playable heroes to start with, not that they won't be locked / unlocked. Heh, sorry to scare you. And yeah, I highly doubt the additional characters will be free, but that's always a nice thought to entertain.

    DLC?

Can I be the only one to hope for a villains back with Dr. Doom, Iron Monger, Red Skull and Magneto?
