GameObserver takes a hands-on look at Microsoft's upcoming Halo 3: ODST, a game based around a recruit Orbital Drop Shock Trooper who is embroiled in an epic story. The game promises a new, darker look, which might just be what the franchise needs for a change of pace.

ODST is certainly looking like an appetizing proposition already, and though the changes from the typical Halo fare are small, they look like they could give the game a surprisingly fresh flavor.

this might actually be good. i was afraid it would be exactly like Halo 3 but with a Marine instead but it sounds like it will feel different cause you are not an almighty Spartan anymore, but a normal weak human. for one thing you no longer can rely on your shields.

and i REALLY love how the new Firefight multiplayer mode is looking, its just like Horde mode in Gears 2.

I really disliked Halo 3 for being way to similar to Halo 2 and found it boring.

Yet when I saw this (had very low expectations) It looks and feels so different.

This is the first Halo game I'm actually excited about!!

I'm excited about free roaming the city, and the humour. Marines are funny as hell.

(like in Halo 3, the locked door scene was pretty funny)

You can think of this game not as Halo 4 or Halo 3, but simply Halo 3.5. Free roaming the city sounds fun though.

i dont know, labeling it Halo 3.5 makes it sound like its just an expansion pack and not a whole new game. ODST is looking like a whole other animal alltogether, so i dont think its fair. the only reason Halo 3 is even in the title is cause it takes place at the same time.

instead i would possibly say you could call Halo 3 Halo 2.5, that would be more accurate. or the new Super Mario Galaxy game which is DEFINITELY Super Mario Galaxy 1.5.
