I take back my last comment after looking into this game, it looks amazing, I'm sure it is alot better than Halo, but it won't be the Halo killer. I'm excited for this game now, so many games... So little money.

Halo killed itself. It doesn't need a killer.

Well apparently it does because it still gets shit load of sales and great reviews and tons of constant players. But I'm sure they "Don't know any better"

I didn't mean killed in the sense of activity. I don't care what they say about "sequels are always similar to the last." Halo 3 played nearly the same as the previous one, albeit Forge and finishing the story.

There are plenty of games with TONS more substance than Halo 3, which makes me wonder why it's still the standard to beat.

Modern Warfare 2 plays the same as MW1, so that makes it a crap sequel.

Uncharted 2 played exactly same as Uncharted but with multilayer and the Halo 3 theatre mode.

That must mean its a crap sequel too.

Sequels usually involve (or at least SHOULD involve) doing something new for the brand, outside of continuing the story. And if not through features or new gameplay mechanics, just improving over the last in some way; Uncharted 2 added a longer and more elaborate storyline with new multiplayer features. I'm not asking you to agree with me; I don't care if you don't. This is just how I see it.

I still don't understand the obsession with MW2, though.

Halo 3 added lots of new multiplayer gametypes and features, not the least of which Forge and the extensive custom game creator which Halo 2 was no where close to having. is that not enough new stuff added?

Halo 3 Did add quite a bit I think. The recording, the creating, and a couple new weapons. Sequels really are only required to add to the plot. New features are just a plus IMO. That's why I'm not into Halo anymore, I'm more plot-driven than multiplayer-driven, which is where the focus of Halo is.

ooooh, ok i see now. i can understand your complaints then. i like a good story too, but for games, i care ALOT more about gameplay and new features, so if a sequel is lacking in the plot department but packs new features that i like, ill overlook the plot's weakness.

Ah, see I'm with HisServant on that one; I'm a HUGE story fan in games; if the plots weak, odds are I won't buy it (unless we're talking racing games). All of the games I own are heavily story-driven, and the only one that isn't is the one I never play because I got bored of playing online deathmatches all the time.

Which would probably explain why we're getting such disagreement on Halo 3; it's dependant on our taste in games that determines what we call innovative.

(though a couple new weapons is not what I call improvement lol, unless you're like Ratchet and Clank )

that must be it. to me personally, stories in games are ok, but if i wanted to see a really good story i would go watch a good movie or read a good book. in a game im more concerned with playing the actual game, and the story is secondary for me.

a simple plot such as, an evil alien race/coalition is threatening to wipe out humanity, and you must take them out. to me, thats a good enough plot as long as the gameplay is good.

Well obviously the gameplay needs to be good, otherwise it's a bad game. I'll explain it this way: if I had a choice between two games that both had great gameplay, but one was online focused and the other had a deeper storyline, I wouldn't hesitate to go for the storyline-driven game. It just makes the game more enjoyable and lasting for me.

I have to agree with Red. To me, Halo killed itself. Halo 3 was a letdown to me, and I haven't desired to play any other Halo titles.

I feel the ONLY reason halo still sells so much, and is played online so much, is not because the game is good, but mostly because of the name-brand of "Halo." To far too many, you are "uncool" if you don't play Halo, or didn't buy the newest one!

So to me, halo is definitely dead. It's just that people keep poking it with a stick and playing with it.

I doubt it. Who sits there on their own playing Halo 3 and going "Man I am so cool for this". Obviously they play for enjoyment and entertainment. People still play Counter strike and have been doing for nearly a decade. I guess they're all playing "Because they're cool". Halo is a good game, people just feel a need to hate it because its big and other people enjoy it while simultaneously fapping to another game series that's been running for longer and has more stuff out *cough*mgs, final fantasy, call of duty*cough*.

Its a sequel, get over the fact that its "similar" to the last game, because that's what sequels are. Tons of games have been released that have had less stuff added to them that halo 3 added over halo 2. Cod:MW2 for example, that has less new stuff in it compared to Halo 3 and 2. As well with Uncharted, Articles come up with "Uncharted 2 made in a year, uncharted 3 planned" everyone is like "Oh man that is awesome, they work so hard, I love them for this and I want them out faster!", With Halo its like "Omg 1 game and an expansion in a generation, MILK MILK MILK!"

Do you think your cool when you go play a game again? or is it because you found it fun the first time and want to play again. I'm guessing the latter.

Actually . . . I know three people off-hand who do exactly your second statement

It's not that they don't really enjoy the game though. I guess the best way I can explain how I see it, is to ask the question: "Would you consider playing this game so much, if you only saw the gameplay, and it was under some unknown, lesser-named game?" The fact of the matter is that many wouldn't. I know literally dozens of people who got the other Halo games, just because they were Halo, even though they absolutely hated the type of genre it was (such as an RTS game). But they pushed through and bought it and played it and through gritted teeth said "Yeah, it's good!" just because of the name Halo. Although they'll admit it's not as good as the others (most of them agree Halo 2 was the best campaign, and Halo 1 the most unique online experience, but will play Halo 3 online more of course because that's where the majority of their friends are).

thats absurd. its far more popular now to hate Halo and you know it. dont give me this "if you dont play Halo you are uncool" bullshit.

          HisServant77 Dec 1, 09
Okay, to make sure things are cleared up. First, I'm not on the hate halo bandwagon. I liked Halo for their campaign and after Halo 3 and being personally disappointed, I don't like the series anymore. Second, I'm not jumping to conclusions when I say a lot of people play just because of the name "Halo" attached to it, I know more than a handful of people who are exactly like that. Three, it is just my assumption that a TON more are the same way, based off of how people generally act when it comes to name-brand things, especially gamers known as fanboys (Dev Fanboys). I'm not saying this for Halo alone, because it happens with other series too, like slumpy mentioned: MSG,FF,COD, etc.
It depends on who you know as to whether you will see more people on the "OMG HALO! Gotta get it all" bandwagon or the "OMG HALO! Let's hate it all!" bandwagon. But why do people get so defensive about the idea that there are a LOT of people who play Halo, merely for the name and the sake of feeling "Cool" and not because they genuinely enjoy it anymore? Is it that hard to believe?

i guess its hard for me to believe because i DONT play it to be cool. i play it cause i love the universe and i actually like how Halo 3 works. i love how the vehicles drive, the variety of weapons, the support weapons, the balance between weapons grenades and melee, and how deep Forge and the custom game maker is so i can make really unique gametypes. no other shooter i know of gives you that much game customization, and im all about customizing things.
