Thierry Nguyen takes a look at the upcoming Prince of Persia title, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Check out the full preview to find out why they reckon it's "pretty spiffy".

One of the first things I hear from Michael McIntyre, level design director of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, is that it takes place soon after (the awesome) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Sure, Sands of Time had a proper (though, not nearly as well-received) sequel in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, but lore-wise, there's a seven-year gap between those two installments -- which provides a convenient place for Forgotten Sands to take place. McIntyre quips, "Obviously, some really bad things happened to him since he became the Prince that he is in Warrior Within, and this is a chance to explore some of them." He notes that Forgotten Sands takes place much closer to Sands of Time, so the Prince hasn't yet entered his "I smolder with generic rage" phase yet.

I hated the new PoP. Gameplay was great aside from those four, cheap and somewhat annoying powers Elika gets after clearing bosses (wall running wasn't terrible, but it was just so forced ) and the boring 'deflect, attack, yawn' combat. The characters were despicable by comparison to the original SoT cast, the story was contrived and, most annoyingly, they just cut off the end and expect you to pay extra for it. The artstyle was a saving grace, I must admit, but adding nice sprinkles on a cake made out of feces doesn't make it edible

I honestly don't like the sound of the 'other' non-time powers (the new PoP's powers have made me bitter, yup) but I hope they don't *bleep* it up again. And don't make any of the character cliche retards again, please.

Cheap and annoying powers? Those were just modes of transportation, it's not like we used those things to really kill enemies. Haha, I agree the wall-running sure was challenging at times, though, had to be quick and exact. I happened to like Elika and the Prince in this one, sure the Prince was more 'badass' and such in the SoT series, but it's a new title, and a refreshing one at that. The story wasn't that bad, we get the gist of it, and yeah the art was very stylish and beautiful.

Oh, the ending prior to the DLC was better than the DLC's ending. xD It had a better cliffhanger style, the epilogue just screamed sequel, something of which still hasn't been announced yet.

Well, the ending basically said 'Haha, we screwed everything you just did, canonically the entire game was pointless now go *bleep* yourself!' I wasn't pleased

The powers were cheap and annoying because even though they were just modes of transport they used them way too much for my liking and they were either coded terribly or just way too easy to do to the point where it was boring; a cheap way to fill in more game time with mini-games which felt like they belonged more in HOME than an actual game.

And I found the Prince and Elika too arrogant, tbh. Too cool, too sarcastic (seriously, almost everything he said was a one-liner), too cliche; may as well have just actually made it Nathan Drake and be done with it. I don't mind him being badass and I certainly don't mind him being occasionally sarcastic but there's a point where they just become fake, cardboard cut-outs instead of actual characters, and they crossed it for me.

You have your opinion, and mine is that the new one was way better than the SoT trilogy put together.

It's a fair opinion and you can feel free to keep it; I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I was just explaining my stance in more detail to Storm.

          Gotcha.

I still hope they finish the story of the other game since that clifhanger was a little unwarranted (even moreso now that they've gone back to the old trilogy).

I guess they just wanted to keep their options open after they finished ACII. Either that or use it to see how the fans would react, since with a cliffhanger people are more likely to express a want for a sequel.
