Examiner.com’s Raymond Herrera previews Sega’s upcoming sequel to their PlayStation 3 tactical RPG, Valkyria Chronicles II, for the Sony PSP, which he had the opportunity to get some hands-on time with during this year’s E3.

Released in North America in 2008 the original Valkyria Chronicles for the PlayStation 3 offered fans of the RPG genre something unique in its gameplay as players would still have a turn-based battle system but instead of choosing a simple command they would be able to move each individual character into position, choose the weapon, aim and attack giving the game almost a turn-based third-person shooter feel.

All-in-all the gameplay alone will make Valkyria Chronicles enjoyable as well as worth playing and if the story and new characters are enjoyable it could easily be one of the best PSP RPGs released this year. With hundreds of potential missions and over 20 different environments Valkyria Chronicles II is sure to keep fans of the original happy and busy for quite a while.

I really wish this had been on PS3, but the game is looking good. Suppose I can hope for a port or another sequel further down the line.

It really did play well and looked pretty good. I do kind of prefer RPG on a console just because looking at a larger screen for hours is easier than on the handheld for me, but it was good and I'm looking forward to playing it.
