We've seen plenty of fan games this year with the blue blur Sonic, but Sonic XG manages to do something the others haven't: be a direct sequel to fit into the series canon.

Sonic XG starts just as Sonic & Knuckles ended with Hyper Sonic soaring through asteroids to get to the Master Emerald. As Hyper Sonic snags the Master Emerald at the end of the Doomsday Zone, however, Metal Sonic swoops in for the giant gem. Sonic then gives chase as everything falls from the sky, starting this new adventure.
