Mana Heroes Unite! - Heroes of Mana preview

mettaur_15 | July 23, 2007 | Previews | DS
August is coming and you know what that means? Heroes of Mana is just a few weeks away - currently scheduled for a US release on August 14th. The game itself will be the SECOND real-time strategy to grace the DS system after Lost Magic.

Here are a few of the game's features:
  • Real-time strategy action makes full use of the Nintendo DS Touch Screen - the intuitive control scheme allows players to lead armies, build bases and vanquish their foes entirely through the use of the stylus.
  • Command heroes and monsters alike from the Mana series and lead them to victory on the battlefield.
  • Intense head-to-head multiplayer element allows friends to challenge one another via DS wireless play.
  • Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection functionality allows players to compare stats and rankings with players from around the world - skilled players can earn bonus maps and items based on their rankings.
  • Signature MANA art style comes to life in a fantastic blend of 2D and 3D enviornments.
  • A beautiful score captures the essence of the WORLD of MANA - KINGDOM HEARTS series composer Yoko Shimomura delivers a stirring soundtrack that elicits the trademark emotions of the franchise.
  • Developed by BROWNIE BROWN Inc., the company behind the beloved SWORD of MANA for the Game Boy Advance.

Please go to the source for the complete preview.
  • Heroes of Mana is the unofficial, though blatantly obvious, prequel to Seiken Densetsu 3. Heroes is considered unofficial because the fact that the game is actually a prequel is being widely ignored. This is probably because SD3 has never been released outside Japan and many non-Japanese gamers may not be familiar with the original game. For the many diehard SD3 fans, Heroes will mark the first time for a real translation of SD3 locations and character names. For all those who are new to SD3, Heroes will provide a fresh and unique chance to explore one of the most beloved Mana realms in the history of the series. With that said, there is absolutely no need to play SD3 in order to appreciate Heroes; the game is a prequel after all. Heroes is set 19 years before the events of SD3, and though none of the starring cast of SD3 will appear, the game features a wide variety of references, cameos, and playable versions of the original's NPCs.
