Well with the new sneak peek of Metal Gear Solid 4, we've all been left wondering, who on earth are those people !
Well in answer to your question, those are the 4 new bosses of the game - and there all WOMEN ! ... Not only that, but if you look at their names, Metal Gear Solid fans may see something rather familiar about them ...

To summarize the trailer, it showed four bosses from the game -- all based on women. That is going to be the theme of MGS4: Beauty and the Beast. The bosses are beasts, but underneath they are beauties.

10 points for who can link all the references to the past MGS characters/bosses.

Psycho Mantis, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Decoy Octopus.

Hmm... I'm a bit skeptical about these bosses. In my opinion Metal Gear Solid is losing it's feel. It's turning into a more futuristic game which I don't like.

Also, yes Seeker X. All of them are referances to bosses out of MGS1.

Its always been rather futuristic, its never been real, its just one hell of a wicked ride that everyone should enjoy.

I agree to a certain extent but at least before it was semi real. This is just plain unrealistic.

Unrealistic? No, it's advanced. I'm pretty sure these things are machines.

Lol like someone using telekenesis, someone who can have bees live inside them and Snake seeing a ghost IS realisitic? Puh-lease.

Someone didn't play MGS2. Remember Fortunes ability to "dodge bullets?" Way to thumb me down for shit you don't know about.

There's no such things as miracles or the supernatural, only cutting edge technology.

Who are you talking to? Who mentioned "miracles" and "supernatural" stuff being real?

Just calm down and take your medicine. I don't know who gave you thumbs down, nor do I care but reacting like that is plain outrageous and uncalled for.

This is just to futuristic for myself, I dont get why it is going like this now in the game as for many new things espically I am not enjoying out of the game that much =[

I can't understand these complaints of it being too futuristic. Your not okay with this, but your fine with Physco Mantis reading you thoughts in MGS1, you fine with Fortune being able to deflect bullets in MGS2 and your fine with the Sorrow being a ghost in MGS3 !
These games have always had a supernatural edge to them and if you don't like it all I can say is that you really are going to miss out on what's looking to be one hell of a game !

I agree, MGS bosses have always been over the top. It's HOW you're required to beat them which should be the measure of their worth! That said, these guys also sound like Mega Man X bosses. You got... Laughing Gas Buster!!!

Yeah and were all those enemies machines? No, they were real people with powers, that's what made it so great. Granted aspects of it were unrealistic but they didn't take it too far into fantasy land which is exactly what they're doing with this game.

I just don't like the idea of fighting machines all through the game. I want human bosses to fight and one machine like the classic MGS setup.

You do know that they are humans right ?? There women, just in technologically advanced armour ...
The only one that seems to be a machine is crying wolf, but I think that might be a person too as its based off a real model

Yes I do know that they are human, they're war casulties that were made into machines. I did read the source.

It's still like fighting a machine though but who knows what happens, Hideo was maybe hinting that they might get their humanity back at some point in the game.

The design is obviously taken from Z.O.E. 2

    ShadowKing2 Aug 23, 07
Well, Z.O.E was made by Kojima I think?

      Cruxis Mana Aug 23, 07
Yes it was made by Hideo as well ^^

    Gogetenks Aug 23, 07
It was. ZOE2 was a superb game. Both were fun, and both Kojima games. However, he didn't design the robots, it was taken from the anime.

I don't know about this new look they all have. Sure, Phsyco Mantis was over-the-top, but that was about it for MGS. Every following game pushed it further and further. I liked them all as people, they were great enemies with very well-done personalities. I actually felt sorry for them. I felt a bit of shame after killing Sniper Wolf. I pitied Phsyco Manitis. I didn't want Vulcan Raven to die like he did. I even felt sorry for killing Octopus and I didn't know what the hell was going on. You just can't get that feeling from a machine. Chimaira hit the nail right on the head.

Oh well. The game still looks incredible nonetheless, but I'm not too fond of a number of changes in the Metal Gear franchise. It's losing it's originality.

    Storm Aug 23, 07
I don't know about that, Gogetenks. It is one of the first stealth/action game series, and MGS 3 had a great MGS feeling to it, heh. Some crazy/futuristic bosses, alright. Meh, The End > all xD That man knows when to move in a life-death situation!

    Gogetenks Aug 23, 07
Oh, it is. Which is exactly my point, really. There is really nothing like the original MGS out there. MGS3 was rather derivative, however (still an excellent game), and MGS4 is reminding me of an awful lot other of games. I never thought MGS would remind me of a game like Medal of Honor, but some scenes of the demo did.

Again, I'm sure it will be an amazing game, and I know I'll love it, but I'm not really getting too much of an MGS feel from it.

You haven't even played the game, and you're saying that this will be disappointing? Have we forgotten about the Exoskeleton suit that Jaeger (Gray Fox) was stuck in? Didn't he seem humane at the end? Who says these lovely ladies can't be either? They're just a bit insane.

And what MGS feel? The game tries to make everything as realistic as possible as to try to explain HOW these things are made (shit, just look at Python from Portable Ops, he's a human ice dispenser and it STILL looks possible...not to mention Jaeger/Null in PO as well). The gameplay is completely remade so instead of being behind enemy lines, you're in the middle of a war...how's THAT for tension?

This game looks exciting, but too bad I'm not gonna buy it or play it. I'm more of a Final Fantasy fan.

    In response to Chimaira.

Yes it might be becoming to futuristic, but MGS has always been about progress.

MGS1 had stuff about cloning which is basically talking about birth. It also talked about passing on genes to FUTURE generations.

MGS2 was more about technology. It had people that were just AI who could think just like a human, which to me is very futuristic.

MGS3 being set in the 60's had very low technology.

Now MGS4 being set in something like 2015 you would expect the game to become futuristic.

I guess you're right. But that's the thing, I don't like this progress but hell don't mind me that's just my personal opinion. It might turn out to be the best game ever made but so far it's not looking good from these trailers and from what I've read. :/

More gameplay trailers need to be shown and in my opinion this setting will get boring real quick.

I don't think any of us can judge these bosses until we play the actual game. Sure, they might look a little cheesy, but I'm interested with how they will be incorperated into the storyline. Kojima hasn't failed us so far! His crazy mind scares me sometimes. XD

Laughing Octopus = win. She looks great!

Just to clear things up with the bosses, Fortune could actually deflect bullets - it wasn't the technology that Ocelot gave her that made it happen ^^
(( You find this out when she deflects RAY's bullets and sacrifices her life ... ))

it's not that they are just "futuristic" in any sense. It's more about the aesthetics. THey just look way to alienating and too featureless. Other bosses, even if they could read your thoughts or deflect bullets, were more human and you could relate to them and feel more of a reaction. These metallic, machine-like creatures just feel very generic, all sharing the same bland black color, nothing human like about them, thus not much characterization. Only mechanization. People love MGS not just for gameplay but storytelling and character development, even in the bosses. Having them all female is neat, but all metal? I'm not so psyched about fighting these dull-Looking bosses. Maybe they'll still have some juicy gameplay though.

Characterization ?? More Human ?? Relate to ?? Feel more ??
All you've seen of these bosses is a 2 minute cut-scene ! I hardly think that's enough to judge them on - nevermind the entire game !

The females aren't all metal either ... these are just women in technological suits.
Hideo has even hinted that part of the game will involve these woman finding the truth and changing back. I think the fact these people are woman adds even more depth to the characters as woman can easily transfer emotion and feeling (( Stereotyping much ... ?? ))

So what are we supposed to do? Say "Oh this trailer isn't enough to judge them on so let's just fill this article up with random nonsensical bullshit that bares no relevance to the bosses"?

No, we're supposed to give our opinions and what we think of the bosses so far.

    Yes please
I know its just your opinion but I think FRoGBuster took it a little to far by talking about characterization and emotions of the characters - that's going a little bit to far from what little we know about the bosses at this present time (( we still have no idea what their personalities are like ))

They don't have be in there suits all the time, maybe they'll all be outside their suits except for when there about to fight you?
