I’ll admit that the control scheme seems novel at best; but aren’t next-gen sports game going for realism nowadays? Watch this video and pay close attention to the movements of the players; am I being overly critical?

I’ve come to the conclusion that given the most recent North American NPD sales data of the Nintendo Wii, their success is based almost exclusively on the low price point of their console. I, like many other gamers and writers on the internet, have been equal parts harsh and skeptical of the Wii; based on some of the comments that get left here from time to time, maybe a little too harsh (but never skeptical enough). But I would like to know if anyone can honestly watch this trailer video for NBA Live 08, and not think that this is a complete joke. This is horrible, even by NBA Live standards (recent carnations of the NBA Live series anyway).

finitely over harsh, the wii isn't meant to be a console for flashy graphics but simply for fun games more than anything and the gamecube sold at a low price too yet it didn't sell very well, people wouldn't buy it if it was a bad console low prices or not. Plus it has a lot of appeal to people who might not normally play games all that much which helps it's sales a lot.

its also hard to tell given the poor quality of the video. I wouldnt rate the game on that video.

The video itself is just bad quality. You can trust EA not to have Nintendo 64 graphics in their games. It's not surprising after seeing those Cruis'n screenshots but you have to notice that here it's just a case of shitty video quality.

From what I can tell, it doesn't look too bad. Not great, but not "horrendous" The video quality is terrible, I can hardly read the scores. I wouldn't judge the game off of this. The textures and character models seem to be solid. Keep in mind that the (very hard to read) "Work in Progress" label is on it, so it could improve.

The animations are quite bad, but otherwise it looks tolerable. I'm not impressed, but the Wii has seen uglier games.
