Every Playstation launch has always had a new entry in the Gran Turismo racing franchise. The Playstation 3 is no different. At e3 ’06 we were given GT: HD which essentially a major visual upgrade given to GT4. Running at full 1080p at 60fps and a demo on PSN it was really a feast for the eyes. But honestly it wasn’t much different from GT4. When we first heard details of GT5 and some of the new features that were coming to the series it’s understandable that our excitement level was through roof.

"The full version of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is coming out in December for $45 (February in the West) you’ll get at least 50 cars, 16 tracks, full online multiplayer and rumored damage modeling! Everybody start saving up now, no racing fan should be without. This is pure unadulterated car porn and that’s the best kind!"

Hardly a demo. The demo you can play right now for free if you have a Japanese PSN account.

The full version won't be available until December in Japan and February in the USA, it will have 16 tracks and 50 cars with online multiplayer. Count me in! The demo kicks ass already, 16 cars on the track at once versus the previous Gran Turismo norm of 8. The in-cockpit views are amazingly detailed and the game plays great.

      Learn to read.

They only call it a demo because it is a [large] chunk of what GT5 will be, and since we know GT5 will take ages to come out, Prologue is a very useful iteration.

But it is hardly a demo, as DEZVOUZ said. There is enough content in this to call it a small game. And notice how the title does not say "GT5 demo".

Of course it doesn't say demo. From a marketing perspective, that would be suicide. Nobody is going to pay for a 'demo.' However, slap 'Prologue' on an established title and watch the sheep flock to it. I really don't care what anyone tells me; it is a demo. It is a preview of the final game. It is a prologue. I never in my life have heard of playing a demo of a prologue. Why not just release a full blown demo for free? Don't confuse my words, I love Gran Turismo all the way to the grave. But if you are so sure of your product, why not shock everyone and release this for free? Maybe if this was cheaper, I would buy it, but to tell me that I have to pay 75% of the price of a full game just for a demo is rape. They're just cashing in on something that people will pay for twice. Later, when the full game is released, they can flaunt all of the 'extra' features you get for only $15 more than the Prologue. Genius.

Oh yeah? You don't care what anyone tells you? When was the last time a racing game demo let you chose between 16 tracks, 50 cars, and race online with up to 15 other people?

Don't even bother answering. I rest my case.

    You completely missed my point.

You mean your point that it is in fact a preview of a game? That it is a prologue, which by definition means that it's an introduction to the full game.

You're saying it's a demo in disguise, that's your point. See, I'm right there with you, but I'm saying your point is wrong. No demo offers 50 cars, 16 tracks, and online play.

You see how your point doesn't add up. You can say you don't think that price point is correct for the prologue and I might be able to agree with you, but I'm still paying it. But you can't try and say this is simply a demo of GT5. It's not merely a demonstration to give you a taste of the full game. Demos are free for that purpose, to get you to spend money. There's already a demo for Prologue to get you to spend money. Again, your argument/point doesn't add up.

Thanks for explaining my point to me, but you're wrong. What my real point is that I am not going to pay twice for a game. If you want to, it doesn't matter to me. Charging that close to full retail price for what is in fact a stripped down version, doesn't work for me. So what they have a demo of the prologue, which makes me laugh every time I say it. So what there isn't any other demo that offers so much. Why does that change this demo? Can you not see the money making scheme? Maybe its because I have a business degree, maybe not, but its so blatantly clear. If they saw it fit to charge money for this Prologue, then they could have just as easily taken out a little content and released a free demo, instead of a limited time tease for an 'introduction.' Its more and more comical the more I think about it. I don't buy it, literally. All I know is GT5 better be out at a decent time, this time.

You act like they're trying to be clever and steal your money or something.
"Can you not see the money making scheme?" Any product that you have to pay for is a money making scheme, but the point is that this isn't some secret way to make tons of extra cash by selling a game twice if we were to use your mindset.
It takes forever for Polyphony Digital to finish a Gran Turismo game and Prologue's purpose is to get a GT game on the PS3 available for fun to be had to tide you over until the official release.

It's a brilliant idea and you have to weight money versus time. Would you rather wait two years for GT5 or enjoy it now for a little less than a full price game? Clearly with you that's the former, but for a lot of people it's going to be the latter.
"All I know is GT5 better be out at a decent time, this time."
Shows how much you know about the Gran Turismo series, have fun waiting bud.
