How could Pandemic possibly release another LotR game you ask? Well, by making it similar to their Star Wars: Battlefront games (in spirit) and calling it LotR: Conquest. This new title will allow players to fight in any of the battles in the Lord of the Rings series and have it go any number of ways depending on how well they do and a variety of other factors. Up to 150 characters (including Sauron) could be onscreen at any one time, and basically the entire Middle Earth universe will be yours for the taking. The game will be out this fall for everything but the Wii.

"Our Pandemic Studios creative teams have years of expertise bringing giant battlefields to life," says Andrew Goldman, Pandemic Studios co-founder and general manager. "We've always wanted to harness our experience in a fantasy universe with warriors, archers, mages and castle sieges. Of course, there is truly no better fantasy world to recreate than the enormity of 'The Lord of the Rings' realm."

"We'll freely admit that we're rabid fans of The Lord of the Rings fantasy," says Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager at Pandemic Studios. "Our experience creating massive, rich, action-packed games means that The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want – even if they choose to play from the evil side."

I have just switched my most anticipated game from the Force Unleashed/Mass Effect PC to this. This will hands down be the greatest game I own once I get it. Even if it's actually shit, the style of game and the fact that it's LOTR will blind me to any of it's faults.

    W...wow...somebody actually caught on.

Back when BFII hit (and sucked), I ran through a series of ideas where similar games could work with the ol' Battlefield 1942 play design. Among them were The Terminator (future setting), Aliens (a new rendition based on some concepts of the original Colonial Marines game), Gundam (which was picked up by Namco for the 360), Warcraft, Starcraft, and Lord of the Rings. Good to see game designers are still thinking quality over quantity. Now they simply have to deliver. From the looks of it, they certainly intend to do just that.

(No word from Namco in a while though)

Looks pretty sweet, fire sword and all. Are they really going to milk this title like Star Wars is, though? I mean, I can't complain, both have great games attached to them, but it's a bit much.
