LBP in a League of its own, Recieves 10/10 from OPSM

Linkin Park Fan | September 26, 2008 | Reviews | Playstation 3
OPSM is the first to review LittleBigPlanet, and no shocker here, they praise the game. They love how simple it is to create a level and how fun the single player is. They say that the game is "It's in a league of its own and an experience that anyone with a PS3 would have to have a sack for brains to miss out on." They gave the game a score of 10/10
The first LittleBigPlanet review is in and the Official PlayStation Magazine has given Media Molecule's masterpiece full marks.

The review talks, and praises to no-end, the creativity that's possible in the game. Something we're loving ourselves in the beta at the moment.

"The limitless creative potential contained within LittleBigPlanet means you'll be scribbling level designs on the back of your hand so you don't forget them. Or breaking off, mid-conversation, to stare blankly into space as the penny drops on how to make a rampaging robot. A big one.

I hate it when games are given a perfect ten without even being on the market for at least a month.

And yet, I can still see this getting perfect tens anyways.

GTA 4 didn't deserve the 10s, but MGS4 clearly did, and I'm feeling that this probably does too.

A perfect 10 is a great sign for a PS3 exclusive. Don't look so unkindly on it, eh?

You are aware that reviewers get early release copies. On top of that there are beta versions out there as well. While the game isn't available to the public reviewers can release reviews based on these early copies.

How do you know what it deserves? The Reviewers have played the game and made a judgement. When you play the game then you can decide if you agree or not. It doesn't matter when it releases.

Why would it be better to release reviews after the game's release? I want to know if a game is worth buying before it goes on sale.

How the hell can you think that reviews should be released after a games release. I dare not dispute ones personal opinion, but I fail to see the logic.

As a young adult, facing different fees and expenses, and still wanting entertainment at a point, I rely on reviews somewhat to give me a vague idea on how polished and presented a game will be, before I purchase it. While the reviews are not the definitive desicionmaker for me, I do hold them with some importance, as the experience and enjoyment from others may be similar to what ill enjoy, and thus from such reviews, I know that the purchase will be a good and smart one.

And I don't know where you get off saying "scores for games that do not deserve it", Since you have neither played the game, nor have the ability to make smart and justified conclusions. Stick to your emotion posts, you clearly lack the integrity and prowess to provide intellectual conversation beyond that.

First off Killosity, don't make smartass remarks. I clearly have played games before knowing full well they don't deserve the scores they got. GTA4 I would rate it as a game 9.0. MGS4 probably same. Cause I don't base games off the series at all.

Secondly I don't base my choice of games off pro reviews cause tbh they're so full of bias its not even funny, I base it all on user reviews the one that really matters. Too many times i've seen unjustified reviews by these "professionals" to make me hate them.

If you like them fine, great whatever floats your boat. But I do not at all base any game decisions off of reviews. I look at user reviews for backup, i'll either rent a game if im unsure or buy it knowing I liked the demo that was released. Thats how Im able to make such choices. Its obviously down to opinion, that much is true, but im just tired of these pro reviews.

Now im not saying LBP isn't a great game at all, cause its not out yet, but I am willing to say I do not think any game deserves a 10 rating. I mean honestly back in the day games barely even got 9.5+ ratings, now in this day and age i've seen multiple games get 10/10 that some do not deserve at all. I mean honestly, have the rating system in this generation become flawed and just throwing out 10s for any type of game. Its ridiculous.

And user reviews aren't biased? Any Tom, Dick or Harry can can write a user-review, fanboys and haters included. Bias is more common in user-reviews than pro-reviews because there are no rules or guidelines to writing them.

I don't know why you seem to think that pro-reviewers are "throwing out 10s" all the time, or why you think there is so much bias in the pro-review industry to make them all hateable. Even when there are a few pro-reviewers who are biased, they get swallowed up in the average scores on Gamesrankings or Metacritic. It's not like every pro-reviewer is out to trick gamers. On a whole, games usually get the review scores they deserve. Though I don't know of anyone who uses review scores as anything more than a general guideline on how good/bad a game is anyway.

That brings me to that point, while user reviews can be biased keep in mind that they are the fans of the series and genre who can formulate a better opinion and state some key factors as to why the game is good or not. Not every pro reviewer played the genre or series before and they just make a review that literally is garbage to the fans of the series. I don't base my game decision as I said on scores or reviews, I do use user reviews for back up or support yes.

But games like God of War, Tekken, SC, SF....etc I've all played before and rarely need to look at the score to determine whether its a buy or not. I rent games to base that off if I need to or if I played the demo version know its a great game to get like The Force Unleashed. I played the demo and loved it, so I didn't need to know anything else about the game. It was an easy decision.

What makes a fan's opinion more valid than the opinion of somebody who isn't a fan though? Isn't a fan's opinion a bias in itself?

Reviews aren't written for fans in the first place. They are written to give the general gaming population a basic idea on a game's strong and weak points. They're not only writing for fans, because fans aren't the only people who buy games from a series.

Im fully aware that reviews from internet websites, and magazines are bias. User Reviews are no different however. They may now have their flashy publication or credential to back up their points, but a user review CAN (not always), be just as bias as an internet resource.

And a score of "10" in most cases does not mean the game is perfect. It means the overall polish, presentation package of the game is at such a high level and is well worthy of purchase.

But what your saying is clearly unjustified.

Maybe it will deserve it. Maybe this is the game that will propell you into a different mindset about gaming. This could become your favourite game ever. Your being preemptive and irrational. Thats why people are pulling you up.

No game deserves a 10 i mean MGS4 was big but it was worth a 9 GTA 4 in that scheme of things was worth a 7 as it is boring and full of glitches. But those kinds of ratings won't sell a game so obviously OPSM and any other Playstation driven magazine will give the game 10, get ready for Resistance 2 10/10 also.

Many of the sites clearly state that a "10" rating does not mean it is a perfect game. Overall, the justification of the purchase and the overall shine, polish and presentation from a game is what generally gets a 10 score. Thats why sites dont work out scores via their averages (although some might).

      You're exactly right, Newcloud.

10/10 doesn't mean a game is perfect, because that's just not possible. It only means that it does everything right.

MGS4 deserved a 10 out of 10 because nearly every aspect of the game was done extraordinarily well.

I personally wouldn't give GTA:IV a 10/10, but I can see how that's reasonable, because it, too, did nearly everything well. Missing many features from GTA:SA was my only problem with it, but it certainly did many things well, IMO.

This game quite possibly deserves a 10/10. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm very excited for this game! I think it's going to be great.

Anyone who think that when a game gets a 10 means its perfect should rethink what it truly means.

Nothing is perfect, perfection is a perception. I doubt these people truly believe that this game was perfect, but actually believe that this game is shining example of its genre.

It isn't as if they are compelled to give the game a perfect ratig just because it is an exclusive. OPM does tend to rate exclusives higher than none eclusives. But if the game sucks they still rate it down exclusive or not. Basically if OPM gave it a 10 then most other reviewers probably won't rate it much under 8.5.
