Many were hoping that Capcom's Resident Evil film would pump some life back into the series, and wipe the Milla Jovovich films from our minds, and what could possible go wrong when Sony Pictures were behind it?

Well, apparently everything, as Wired have given a film a mere 3/10.

...That's still better than the Jovovich films though :D

Kohler: I suppose it does do that -- the plot of the film leads directly to Resident Evil 5, so die-hard fans will likely scrutinize every last detail. The plot follows characters from the games, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as they attempt to put down yet another outbreak of a manufactured virus that turns people into zombies. As someone who's just casually interested in Resident Evil games, I found Degeneration's plot to be entirely insubstantial, a paper-thin excuse to shoot grotesque zombies. I'm not even quite sure what happened. The storytelling was not good enough to hold my interest.

Snow: I couldn't agree more. It didn't feel like there was much advancing of the overall plot. Yes, the T-virus is still alive and kicking, and by the film's end, the characters have faced hordes of zombies, and defeated them. Doesn't that just sound like what has happened in every Resident Evil game?

Kohler: The whole thing's just bizarre. Degeneration is the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children of the franchise -- a movie that die-hard fans will likely defend, but general audiences will not get at all.

Snow: This is going to satisfy hard-core fans, and that's about it.

Milla should stick to her music, or at least stop doing those godawful films. =/

What?! I'm stumped...how can a CGI film that has Claire be this bad? It's not possible...Capcom must have really screwed up, or these critics are being too "critical" of the film.

What the hells with all the Milla Jovovich hating going on?
I thought the 3 Resident Evil films were some of the best Game to Film movies so far. Seriously what the hell do you people see wrong in them? =|

They're merely okay when they could be awesome. Seems more action than horror. Just my opinion anyway. Boooo.

More action than horror...hmm, sounds like the modern RE games these days.

The fact that they have nothing to do with the games at all?

Well, they have. Umbrella, zombies, and racoon city. Even had the nemesis.

        What more do you want?

Less superhuman-woman-destroying-hoardes-of-zombies-herself, more STARS-trapped-in-a-scary-mansion-trying-to-survive-a-zombie-invasion. (Or, to put it blunty, I want Resident Evil: Degeneration )

A bunch of zombies in a city (with the ocassional glimpse of Nemesis) doesn't qualify as a Resident Evil movie. There's a lot more that fans want - Actual characters from the games playing lead roles would be one of them. I can do without the stupidity of Alice's entire plotline.

House of the Dead 2 managed to create a Zombie survival movie with Para/military survivors and a corporate conspiracy storyline a LOT better than any of the RE movies (admittedly, a bit low budget and whatnot).

Gothic Girl, you do realize that movies based off games fail when they try to recapture everything the game had? In this respect, the resident evil movies with Milla Jovovich is probably the best game to movie adaptation there is. They gave it a different style and making it its own. I can understand if this was a sequel to a game, but not a movie. Sorry, I want action in movies thus why movies are around. I want something to grab my attention while watching it.

You may not liked it cause you wanted it to be like the original game versions of RE, but I loved the movies and still think its the best so far. I don't like this movie, doesn't sound or look that great.

You forgot the part where you say "in my opinion".

I don't agree that games based off movies fail. In fact, I'd say the reason the majority of them do fail is because they don't stick to their source material. They end up pissing of fans and boring people who aren't fans.

Though I find it odd that you consider it a good thing that Hollywood took the source and changed it to make it their own. In the end it's not their own. It's Capcom's. If I want a generic Hollywood zombie movie, I'd go to a DVD store and rent one. (Heck, there's plenty to choose from). If I want an RE movie, I'll trust Capcom to do it properly.

Well no shit it got a bad score...it was reviewed by people who don't give a *bleep* about the video game franchise? In any case, I can give it a shot, I have to...like Storm and I have been constantly saying these past few months...it's got CLAIRE in it. Though I'm hoping Alyson Court came back to reprise her role again.

Isn't this kinda what we were hoping for? I want the movie to be geared towards Resident Evil fans. We've already seen what happens to RE movies when they are geared towards a general audience.

Who the *bleep* are these guys? i wanna know what credibility they have, are they fans of the series or just some schmoes off a website putting in there 2cents on a movie they just saw a preview for. I say screw them and I'll judge the movie myself without their input.

Wired are a very well respected Hardware site.

They must be too if they managed to get into the advanced screening of Degeneration.

I'm confused. I feel like I'm reading reviews for Metal Gear Solid 4 again. "The story and overall appeal is best left for the hardcore fans, because the general audience won't be satisfied." That's fine wit me.

I actually really enjoyed the Resident Evil movies. I thought that whilst they wearnt staying very true the the series, they were honourable and kept true to the core premise, and kind of "reimagined" the plot progress from there.
