DICE's upcoming parkour action game Mirror's Edge is stirring up a lot of hype, and reviews are officially out today. Will the game live up to all the attention? Judge for yourself.

Here is Neoseeker's in-depth review of Mirror's Edge, hot out of the oven.

Mirror's Edge is set in an immaculate city ripped right from the pages of Orwell's 1984. The government now controls every aspect of daily life, and the city's residents have long since given in to the comfortable yet stifled way of living. As such, people known as Runners have found their niche by transporting documents and packages. These fashionably attuned courriers navigate a complex system of conduits and runways, comprised of city skyscrapers to industrial storm drains. While their business is technically illegal, authorities have always turned a blind eye rather than go through the trouble of tracking Runners. Well, all that is about to change.

How did you get an early copy...?

Anyways read the review and it was a good read. Shed some light on info such as the save points. I have had problems like that with other games. But from what I read, teh good things outway the bad, and the bad don't seem to be something that should stop someone from playing this game.

Long story short, I sold my soul to EA. Or someone else at Neo did, and I just benefited from it.

Interesting, when did Neoseeker get review staff?

Edit: I should clarify that, when did Neoseeker get Video Game review staff?

We've had staff reviews before I believe, we just typically leave that stuff to other sites/users. ME is special.

Neo's been moving more toward video games with its growing popularity. There aren't many of us at Neoseeker dedicated solely to gaming, but we do exist!

Yeah... I've been meaning to join the review staff for a while... just can never quite get around to doing so... but I promise the next Review copy game I get... I'm actually going to sit down and review it...

I tend to go with IGN, they reflect my tastes pretty accurately. I might consider it if and when the price drops.

Nice review though like with all reviews these days it screamed "I was reading a dictionary while writing this" there are just too many "big" words to make the review seem more intelligent than it actually is. You are writing about a game not the last Shakespeare play you saw where such words might help the cause. I found at times during that review i was getting lost, not because i didn't understand the words or their meanings but because it felt like the reviewer was just stringing them along for the sake of it, it really seemed that every 5 words was something to make the reviewer seem more intelligent and educated, it doesn't work. Anyway the review was good and the game sounds good albeit a bit old school in it's trial and error technique of gameplay, i'll buy it.

Actually, I am not qualified to write reviews for Shakespearean plays. I can assure you though, that I was not reading a dictionary while composing this review. Otherwise, I'm glad you liked the review as a whole.

Come to think of it, I can't remember any big words. Could you elaborate and give some specific examples? I can't promise that I'll be changing my style of writing any time soon, since that is how I speak in real life, sans swearing. After all, doesn't our vocabulary reflect how our mind operates?

I didn't feel the review was too obfuscatingly garrulous myself -- bigger words for bigger brains, I say!

Though I would love to read Lydia's review of the 'latest' Shakespeare play

Thats actually something i hadn't actually considered, that you actually spoke like you typed in everyday life. Basically by big words i was talking about those not used in everyday speech, i guess you use those words in everyday life so they are normal i feel i should have chosen my words a bit more carefully.

Though i agree that the vocabulary you use reflects in that way, i guess i am just used to so many reviewers typing like their mother bought them a dictionary for their birthday that i failed to think that maybe their everyday speech is like that. I apologise for what i said if you took offense to any of it, after all that it was a very good review and a good read.

I see what you mean, BlackLabel, about the contrived writing, but I don't think it was so in this case..! It can be hard to tell though I suppose. Personally I enjoyed Lydia's review fully.

Maybe you should have 2 reviews, like one really elaborate one and then another which is like.

"This game is good, I think you should get it"
"This game is bad, I don't think you should get it"

You can just skip to the last paragraph for that.

I actually enjoyed the "big words" that I find lacking in most of the population I seem to be delving into in the last few years. But it's not a problem with the big words, it's only a problem if it doesn't flow smoothly.

Im going to be against the rest and agree with Superfast Oz and Chaut that the review felt more negative then positive, and that's how I saw it as well. And this review doesn't make me any more enamored for the game. In fact this just makes me deciding on purchasing the game even more difficult. This game is purely a rent in my eyes.

    @BlackLabel
If Lydia has a robust vocabulary I don't see the problem with interjecting "big words" into a review. I think you might be a little over dramatic, there were maybe five instances of "big words" and spread out over a two page review it's not bad at all. Although, some references were a bit vague and left me wondering what was being referenced and I had to resort to Wikipedia. ie: Parkour could have been explained as such "Parkour, alternatively known as Free Running". etc.

What I didn't like, and, this applies to all reviews that I read, are the comparisons to other games. Unless the game you're comparing is a previous installment in the same series, I just don't care and can't see the point in comparing them or even bringing them up. While I see the point in mentioning Assassins Creed due to the similar Free Running style of game play it doesn't necessarily inform me of the game at hand that's being reviewed, Mirrors Edge. I want to read about Mirrors Edge, not how it's like X game. I especially didn't find the COG / Gears of War reference too appealing. Not because I don't like Gears, in fact I enjoyed played the first GoW with my roommate, but, it has nothing to do with Mirrors Edge.

What I did find informative and what was rather a shock to me was that the demo and trailers built it up and also made me think I would be delivering packages (illegal goods?) to clientele but apparently that is not the case, which, is a it disappointing, but I still look forward to picking this up.

Aside from my nitpickings of game-to-game comparisons, I believe Lydia did a great job. This was the first review on the game that I saw posted online. Kudos to Lydia on the review.
