I've been dying for a good next gen Sonic game for some time. So far, what has come out has had cool elements (sense of speed, motion blur, etc), but fell flat when delivering the fun. Sonic Unleashed seemed like it was shaping up to come close to hitting the mark, but as our new reviewer Chris Plante writes, it falls a little short.

Our love died long ago, but the Blue Blur and I share a history. We grew up together. And, yeah, things have been rough recently, but Sonic Unleashed will heal the wounds. Right? ”Sonic Unleashed seems different than those other Sonics,” I say. “Things will return to how they used to be, a time when my favorite Hedgehog’s sassy humor was intentional, not ironic.” Is that too much to ask?

"A little"? Not only are the 360 and PS3 versions superior by having MORE running stages, the Wii and PS2 fall flat by putting a 3:1 ratio of Werehog stages.

Worse yet is that the Werehog stages are handled by DIMPS, the developers behind the atrocious Sonic Rush games (THERE WERE NEVER ANY PENALTIES FOR EXPLORATION YOU IDIOTS).

LOL, I was trying to be nice. I am avoiding that game like the plague. Still way too much on my plate from the late October release crunch that was insane - this may be a rental for me...

Meh, he reviewed the Wii game, so i knew it'd be a bad review.

However the 360 and PS3 versions will be extremly dominant over the Wii and PS2 versions.

Even the were-sonic bits? That is the one thing that is keeping me away, I want speed, not a Sonic that wolfs out.

Yeah because Sonic and the Secret Rings was so much worse than Sonic the Hedgehog. The Wii version is from the makers of Rush, the other version is from Sonic Team. Go ahead and place more faith in them if you want to.

Regardless I suspect this will be a love it or hate it game on all systems. Maybe it will prove to make you werewolf like. An extremely happy gamer by day and one angry near insane one at night.

To be Honest, i kinda enjoyed the were-hog stages but still redoing them to try to find secret capsules makes me a bit iffy. I may buy the 360 version so i can compare the 2 versions.

As far as iv seen though, people have either hated were-hog or liked it. Day stages though are amazingly fun for me. I have done them several times just to take all the different paths.

I think it would have been better if they balanced out the day vs night stages more.

Actually the only place where you can change between wolf and sonic is the side puzzle solving in the moon/sun doors inside the various gaia gates where you can get various items.

Thing that sucks though is where are all the classic sonic power ups like wheres the speed shoe capsule the and the invulnerability one. instead all we have are the blue orb, red orb, extra life, and secret capsules.

I had to zoom out of the page in order to read everything on the source. Pretty much what I expected from the Wii version. So its safe to say PS3 and 360 version is hella fun? Can't wait to play it.

The PS3 version has no Metacritic score yet and the Wii version has a higher rating than the 360 version, however that is with fairly few reviews. We will have to see what happens but I think there is a good chance I am right in my belief the Wii version will prove superior overall.

I'm going to get the 360 version. I hope it is like when I played Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Adventure DX.
