OXCGN writers (2 reviews for the price of one) have a look at DICE's latest outing - Mirror's Edge. Check out both reviews and see their thoughts on the game.

From my side of the fence, the game adds some stunning visuals and game play, but is this shared by many gamers, or do they want the same-old-same-old still?

You be the judge, pop over and check the reviews out now.

As if the Xbox 360 didn’t have enough first person shooters. Then comes along Mirror’s Edge, an ambitious title by DICE, that isn’t your typical run and gun FPS. Rather, it tries to reinvigorate and re-energise a genre flogged to death like an abused overworked lame horse.

Rather than focusing on the core concept of shooting, the game instead features fast paced running, jumping, balancing and climbing gameplay. What makes Mirror’s Edge unique is the way that DICE have managed to make a first person shooter fun, even if you don’t fire a weapon.

Mistake #1: It's not an FPS. Seriously.

By genre, it is. It's first person. It has guns. Is the purpose to shoot those guns? No, but they're there.

It is an FPS, guns are in there, they just emphasise you not to use it, what would you define it as? I suppose it could fall under a few genres but FPS primarily.

Thus defeating the purpose of a "shooter".

First person Action, I guess, they did the same thing with Condemned.

Its still a FPS by definition, And take note it also says 'Not your typical' So they don't expect you to lump it in with other Genre defining FPSes

Though different from your typical FPS it is essentially within the confines of the FPS genre'. Unfortunately (for me) it didn't quite reach the lofty heights of my expectations, good game but not amazing...

Actually it is, but I refer the genre FPR. First Person Runner.

I prefer First Person Kick The Guy In The Crotch And Jump To That Suspiciously Red-colored Pole. But they'd never make a genre with fifteen letters, so I suppose I'll settle with whatever you guys got. :L

First Person Parkour? sounds pretty good to me.

Exactly what I thought -- since that's what it is. If this game's an FPS then it's also strategy, platform (well that could be squeezed in there, I guess, though parkour assumes platforming elements already), even RPG, and a ton of other things. Expand your minds, weirdos.

This looks to be one hell of a saucy game

Although the combat sounds disappointing, from what I read the game looks really good! I thought it would suck, but it looks like I was wrong.

Combat sucks because it wasn't the real focus of the game. Infact the game DISCOURAGES combat. Think of this as Sonic in a FP view.

And this is an FPA a first person adventure.

Its in first person and it's an adventure (sorta) 3D metroid games are considered the same.
