OXCGN takes a look at the latest Mortal Kombat game where both Mortal Komba=t pit their skills against the Good-guys of DC universe.

Will the game cut it and impress previous Mortal Kombat fanes and DC Universe fans a like? Or will it leave them wanting?

According to the review, it looks rather pleasing for all concerned, so slip over and check out the review, and the pics.

It’s brutal, violent and still holds that MK charisma

Well its been a long wait for the first next-gen Mortal Kombat (MK) game, and for many fans like myself the announcement of MK vs DC Universe was something of a surprise and shock. Our beloved MK characters battling the heroes and villains of DC? What did this mean for the brutal+violent Mortal Kombat?

It meant a more toned down version of what we had come to love over the past decade. Less graphic/gory fatalities by every MK character and the inclusion of a proper, more believable storyline.

Many thought at first that it wouldn’t work, that it was “doomed to fail” and so on. Though Midway have ensured that it may be less graphic and violent, it still possesses that quirky charisma and corny voice acting, the staple of every MK game.

Good review. It's very good fighting game, Midway balanced it quite well. The story mode is decent too, combos work, graphics are nice, etc.. My only problem...is that this is a T-rated MK game. The fatalities are so damn terrible...with exception of about 5.

Just because it has MK characters doesn't make this a MK game. This is a typical T rated fighting game, but just featuring both these characters.

      Anyway nice review.

This is DEVELOPED and PUBLISHED by Midway (the owners of MK), it's got Mortal Kombat gameplay mechanics, and Mortal Kombat is in it's title. If a Midway game has 'Finish Him/Her' at the end of a battle, then yes it's a Mortal Kombat game. In fact, it's recognized as part of the Mortal Kombat series. They created and defined that end-battle sequence. Problem is, it's watered down in this game.

It's also has DC characters, does that mean this game is a DC game too?

Wow, quick response, meaning that you obviously didn't read my comment.

And sure, you can take it as a DC game. But if it's being backed up by Midway, published and developed, basically created by them, I'll take it more as an MK game. It's like Marvel vs Capcom. It's featuring Marvel characters, but Capcom fleshed it out by developing and publishing the game. They should be the ones recognized.

I did read your response, I just noticed it when it was posted and me posting immediately afterwards.

It was a counter statement that regardless of who did the game or who's in it, it can't be a DC game or MK game. It can be both. It's just another fighting game similar to Marvel vs Capcom. I see both as the same, there is no "Its *insert name* game.

The graphics look intense. Well done Midway, i'm impressed. I'm highly considering buying this game now.

It does look great, I wonder if this is more of a rent though?

Yeah, I'd say it's more of a rent, unless you're a die-hard DC/MK fan. If you're into fighting games too, this is a good addition to your collection.

I should really try this game. Im quite narrowminded and think that all these kind of games are budget and not worthy of my attention. Truth is, they are probably very fun and compelling titles. Looks fun

It's all irrelevant now who published or developed it, as Midway are dead - period. Sold off for the measly sum of $US100,000 (that is less that 1 cent a share - $US0.0012 to be exact) (http://www.edge-online.com/news/midway-sold-00012-share) to some private investor who is remaining silent. This included him taking over the 100's millions of debt of the company, but no indications of what and if the studio will be making more games or what types of games they will be IF it makes games in the future.

Sad fact, another developers bites the dust.

Well yeah, sad to see this happen to Midway...hope they do continue making games, I want a sequel to Shaolin Monks.

But it's not entirely irrelevant as to who published and developed this game. They can't re-write history, Midway are the head of this game and all the other previous MK ones. The future is unknown at this point, but yeah what are they going to do, retract the games next year or something?
