Resident Evil 5 went through a lot of criticism. One being the race issue, and most recently the controls issue. But there is a lot more to the game and gamers can find enjoyment out of. IGN has posted one of the first online reviews for Resident Evil 5.

Final Score=9/10

Sometimes it's hard not to be totally frustrated by Capcom. Yes, it might have created some of the single most important franchises in gaming; yes, it might be home to some of the most experienced, most talented individuals in the industry but its love of out-dated, counter-intuitive videogame "logic" and dogmatic refusal to adhere to any semblance of modern videogame standards is legendary. By and large, you know you're playing a Capcom game by the sheer number of preposterous videogame hoops you're expected to leapfrog through in the name of enjoyment.

In fact, hands down, the biggest complaint you can reasonably levy at this latest iteration of Capcom's not-very-Survival-Horror series is its wilfully idiosyncratic control schemes. It's not that Resident Evil 5's offerings are bad as such - it's just that we've got much better ways of doing this kind of thing these days. Now that the franchise has moved firmly away from horror into action territory, it's tough to justify Resident Evil 5's clunky, cumbersome controls. That applies to movement, combat and even the game's camera - and, with the likes of Dead Space and Gears of War perfecting third-person play, Capcom's oddly staccato system is simply inexplicable. Yes, it might heighten tension as you're forced to stop and shoot but – as enemies break out the heavy artillery and cover plays an increasing important role later on – it's clear that Resident Evil just isn't that kind of game anymore.

    I suck.
I wrote up an awesome little article paragraph for all of this, had some awesome images, and even my own thoughts, only to be beaten to the post by you Linkin!

I was too slow. As for the review, it makes alot of critisms which I agree with. Having read up the spoilers and seen the various cutscenes in the game, I do agree with them in saying that the writing direction and level design does tend to lose some steam towards the end, and it wasn't the great next-gen RE title some of us were expecting.

I guess the heavy storytelling and characterisation in MGS4 has raised my standards so high and I shouldn't have expected so much..
