Neoseeker's Sean Ridgeley reviews The Path, a fantastic horror title from indie developer Tale of Tales, now available for download from Direct2Drive, Steam, or the Tale of Tales' official site. Apparently, it's quite different from anything we've seen in recent gaming history, but independent studios are always good at mixing up the formula.

Tale of Tales take their name from a collection of fairy tales by Giambattista Basile; with this fourth venture, and first commercially available game, they've created a work of art -- let's just get that out of the way immediately.

Comparisons of it can be drawn to a multitude of other games out there, some commercial, some not, but as a sum of its parts, and in the nature of its driving forces, it's probably best kept to itself.

In any case, the title is loosely based on the Little Red Riding Hood children's tale, as their first game '8' was on Sleeping Beauty, and it's terribly exciting to see a take on it with elements like horror and poetry involved.

The premise is this: seven 'Red Girls' live in an apartment together, and must go see their grandmother, who lives in the forest. At the first screen (there's no main menu), you pick one and take them on their own personal journey throughout the forest.

you know what they should do yeah this gives me an idea this article. seeing as no-one reads books anymore, and the collective reading age of most people barely scrapes up to a 1 year old *bleep* chimp, they should do that they should make games based around all those fairy tales, all the brothers grimm, and hansel and gretel and all the morals and all that crap, get it out to a new audience with the popular medium of now, being the all-encompassing virtual machine. if it was done, in a tasteful way, taking advantage of the benefits and drawbacks of gaming system vs. the written word, that could be not only popular, but functional also - re-educating the little people in some form, setting em up ready for the world.

This game looks really creative. I'm going to buy it and show my support...so nice to see dev's actually making a game from scratch, instead of recycling the same old ideas, like 90% of the games being today...
