Electronic Theatre provides an analysis of Left 4 Dead's recent Survival Pack DLC, stating that as a free bonus it's very welcome, but perhaps because it wouldn't have warranted a monetary spend.

Aside from a selection of bug fixes, the Survival Pack is mainly that which has been largely discussed – a brand new gameplay mode. While Valve could’ve unquestionably charged for the pleasure of such an addition, it’s more limited nature could well have been considered unfulfilling by many regardless of the cost attached, and possibly spoilt the company’s generous reputation. As paid content, Survival Mode is reasonable. As free additional content, it’s an absolutely fantastic bonus.
